SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
This position will manage a line crew in a safe efficient and productive manner. Crew are responsible for the maintenance and construction of overhead distribution lines and equipment. Comply with and enforce company and industry safety rules and operating procedures. Foremen serve as hands-on leaders for their construction crews. You will be accountable for the safety, quality, and productivity of all crew members while completing construction projects for our host utility in a safe and timely manner. You will be required to manage and care for any piece of equipment assigned to you and your crew. You will occasionally be interacting with utility customers. You will be a safety ambassador.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform all of the responsibilities of a Journeyman Lineman.
• Responsible for crew administration and equipment management.
• Interact with employees, customers, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Adhere to IUS safety and performance standards.
• Maintain time and material records for the assigned job.
• Other duties as requested by leadership.
• You are the designated competent person for your crew; you must be able to identify hazards and take corrective action when necessary.
• Understand and perform all functions of power line construction, re-conducting, conversions, transformer connections and specs.
• Able to perform lineman essential functions when necessary.
• Fill out progress and/or disciplinary reports when needed or requested
• Customer and labor effective communication.
• Job planning.
• Organizational skills. Ability to organize and assign responsibility to crew members in an efficient manner.
• Ability to motivate individuals.
• Ability to follow specific job requirements and recognize potential dangers.
• Ability to train employee and assess weaknesses and strengths within each crew member.
• Communicate daily with crew members on changing conditions such as schedules, job location, job requirements and hazards.
• Work long and irregular hours to restore service.
• Travel long distances when needed; work out of town and/or state when necessary.
• Drive utility vehicles (CDL drivers only); while following operating instructions, safety standards, guidelines and DOT responsibilities.
• Must be able to operate all safety equipment and initiate emergency action plan if necessary.
• Must be trained and able to perform pole top rescue when needed.
• Must be trained and able to perform CPR.
• Has overall responsibility for safety and performance of crew.
• Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing all essential functions.
• Have a thorough knowledge of lockout-tag out procedures, insulate and isolate practices, switching procedures and placing and removing grounds.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations & commitments, including Daily Competent Person
• Inspections, PPE requirements, trenching and shoring work practices and controls are in place
• Connections - phase orientations verified; equipment dielectric tests are up to date.
• Must have thorough knowledge of all host utility specifications.
• Thorough knowledge of locate policy and procedures, including laws governing locate procedures
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the electrical services industry required.
• OSHA Competent Person Certified is preferred
• CDL required.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills must be very detail oriented.
• Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to understand plans/blueprints to ensure projects meet all building/code requirements.
• Proven success in meeting critical deadlines under stressful conditions
• Strong sense of personal responsibility
• Commitment to doing quality work while putting safety first.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
• Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required

• Clean driving record with current driver's license.
• Must be willing to consent to a background check.
• Must be able and willing to obtain Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (Company Provided)
• Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Must be willing to assist in any task that needs to be completed on the project.
• Must be open to extended times away from home as well as working holidays.

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site.
A minimum of 40 hours/week may be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the evenings and/or during weekends.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position works primarily in the field and is exposed to all types of weather conditions including temperature extremes and rainy environments. Outdoor setting involves all types of property and site conditions, including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites and road rights of way. Subject to outside weather/driving conditions.
