JOB DESCRIPTION

Program: Monument Street Shelter

Position Title: Janitor

Grade: 2

Status: Full Time

Classification: Non-Exempt

Hours Per Week: 40

Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Director of Facility and Security

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Security and Facility the Janitor is responsible for performing basic janitorial duties for the Monument Street Shelter. The Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of both inside the shelter and the outside grounds of the shelter.

PRIMARY DUTIES

1. Sweeping, and mopping the floors and stairways
2. Clean and sanitize bathrooms
3. Clean kitchen countertops, microwaves, refrigerators, and break rooms
4. Empty all trash cans, clean receptacles, and replace liners as necessary
5. Clean Laundry during the Day
6. Clean windowsills and windows
7. Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized and safe manner
8. Restock supplies in the bathroom, break rooms, and common areas.

SECONDARY DUTIES

1. General maintenance of the outside grounds

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

1. Participates in staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
2. Upholds the vision, mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
3. Assists with and attends special events held by the Center and St. Vincent de Paul as necessary.
4. Other duties as assigned, within the scope of the position

REQUIREMENTS

1. High School Diploma/ GED (Associates Degree Preferred).
2. 2 years janitorial experience.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
4. Ability to relate in a courteous, non-judgmental manner with persons from all ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds.
5. Desire and ability to work as a team player.
6. Pleasant and courteous telephone manner.

1. Type of work:
   _____SEDENTARY WORK: Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying small articles and occasional walking and standing.

_____LIGHT WORK: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. It involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing/pulling of arm/or leg controls.

__X___MEDIUM WORK: Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 25 pounds.

_____HEAVY WORK: Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects no more than 50 pounds.
