What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sawyer Technician I position at Matanuska-Susitna Borough?
This position assists with the maintenance of borough property by reducing fire and other hazards.

This position is a 40 hour per week Project position.G1 - DOE
Three (3) seasons (summer, winter, or fire) of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer employment physical.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools to fell and chip trees.
- Services and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Drives to borough land where trees need to be felled.
- Orients crew on borough property to ensure felled trees are on borough land and not adjoining property not owned by the borough.
- Interacts with the public to explain why trees on borough land need to be felled to reduce fire hazard and improve public safety.
- Performs related duties.
