RETAIL SALES ASSOCIATE

DEPARTMENT: Retail, Maui Ocean Treasures Gift Shop

DIRECT REPORT: Director of Retail

HOURS: Full-time up to 40 hours per week (day shift, on call, weekends)

POSITION SUMMARY

If you’re friendly and have a positive and upbeat attitude then we’re looking for you! Our Retail Sales Associates work along-side our Retail Sales Leads to make and drive sales on a daily basis. The Retail Sales Associates also assist with keeping our sales floor neat, tidy, and restocked. Our ideal Retail Sales Associate candidate is someone who is flexible and who can also work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift. Maui Ocean Treasures Gift Shop is the official gift shop of Maui Ocean Center. We are the most unique gift shop on Maui and we offer items that include apparel, books, marine-themed gifts, Hawaiʻi made culinary items, bath & body products, jewelry, keiki toys, and so much more! We strive to provide exceptional customer service and to assist our guests with finding the perfect gift to commemorate their visit to Maui.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50lbs or more and be able to stand for long periods of time in order to assist customers on the sales floor, as well as helping with restocking the sales floor and helping with various projects

· Must be organized and maintain a clean and well-stocked cash wrap station on a daily basis

· Must be comfortable working on a computer

· Must be comfortable with cash handling

· Have a sense of ownership and pride in the aquarium and Maui Ocean Treasures

· Maintain upbeat, professional attitude

· Conduct positive interactions with customers­ and fellow employees

· Actively contribute to meeting daily sales goals

· Help to make and drive sales on the sales floor

· Help with various projects, such as cleaning, restocking, setting-up merchandise displays on the sales floor, etc.

· No prior retail experience required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Great people skills, outgoing and pleasant. The ability to provide excellent customer service daily

· Reliability & punctuality

· Basic computer skills

· Responsible with money (ie: able to accept and give back change) and can easily and comfortably cash handle with accuracy

· Can use a calculator to add/subtract/percentages etc…

· Self-Motivated & organized with attention to detail

· Able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 – 9 hour shifts with breaks)

· Can bend, stoop, and lift at least 50 lbs

· Clear communication: this includes verbally and with reading/writing in the English language

· Previous experience working in retail is preferable, but not required

· Some experience with working on a Point-Of-Sale (POS) system preferable, but not required

· Establish and maintain productive, professional relationships with other employees and effectively work as a team, as well as independently to perform all job requirements

· Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift
