What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Art Teacher position at Maureen Claffy Art Academy?
Job Description:
We are hiring afterschool art enrichment teachers at Maureen Claffy Art Academy! This will be for elementary schools in Hinsdale, Elmhurst, La Grange, Downers Grove and Westmont.
- Teachers will follow a curriculum for our Draw and Paint for Life program centered around a weekly ArtBook featuring a different artist, method/technique, color, and brush.
- Students are K-8th grade in District 101 and District 181 elementary schools located in Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Burr Ridge, and Western Springs.
- Each class is one afternoon per week for a class session of between 10-11 weeks, depending on the school. Classes start at the end of the school day and run between 1-1.5 hours, also depending on the school.
- Teachers will work closely with Maureen to train in her methods and also teach together at intervals throughout the class session. Maureen drops in on classes to assist and work with students whenever possible.

Required Experience/Characteristics:
- Working knowledge of art.
- An interest in creativity.
- The ability to encourage children and allow their creativity to flourish.
- Intention to be careful with your language in how you speak to and encourage the children, and a deep respect and appreciation for them.
- Must be willing to be trained in Maureen’s method and sign an NDA indicating that you will not copy her methods/program.
Background Check / Mandated Reporter Training:
- All teachers must undergo a thorough background check and receive proper Illinois Mandated Reporter Training for the safety of our students and staff.
- Criminal history check: Fingerprinting will allow us to review your Illinois State Background Check, as well as your RAP Sheet, Medical Licenses, and State Bar Exams (if applicable).
- Mandated Reporter Training: The purpose of this online course is to help all Illinois Mandated Reporters understand their critical role in protecting children by recognizing and reporting child abuse.
