The Plastic Cards Representative is a primary contact for the Visa debit and credit card programs. They are responsible for assisting credit union members and employees with credit and debit card applications and related questions. Plastic Cards Representatives also assist members with credit card fraud loss, settlement and prevention and may perform other duties as requested.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides excellent service as a primary contact for matters related to plastic card products:
- Maintains full knowledge of plastic card service products, systems and procedures.
- Provides credit and debit card customer service by telephone, electronically, and in person regarding card problems, complaints, lost/stolen cards and statement copy requests.
- Assists credit union employees with the card application process to ensure completeness of information.
- Orders all plastic cards for members.
- Maintains accurate maintenance of all records required to support activities of the department.
Works with members and MEFCU staff to ensure all services related to plastic cards is complete, timely and accurate:
- Ensures all card payments have been properly recorded to ensure the accuracy of credit union Visa records.
- Performs maintenance on plastic cards as required.
- Communicates with outside agencies to properly record positive and negative member credit issues.
- Maintains, updates and distributes current forms and information to staff related to plastic cards.
- Refers members who fail to make required Visa payments to the Collection Officer for follow up.
Fraud loss control and documentation:
- Prepares and files blocks on card accounts.
- Follows up with members and service providers to ensure timely settlement and resolution of fraud cases, addressing problems or concerns.
- Processes fraud files until closed out.
- Promotes fraud prevention in member communication.
- Maintains records in accordance with credit union procedures.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent AND one year of experience working in a financial institution.
All employees must be bondable by MEFCU’s insurance policy. Continued employment is subject to maintaining favorable bondable status per insurance standards.

Knowledge of: credit union philosophy, organization, by-laws, and operations procedures; rules and regulations governing Consumer Credit, Equal Credit Opportunity, Truth-in-Lending laws; current economic conditions and market environment factors that may impact the lending environment.
Skill in: time management; interpersonal communications; organization and prioritization skills; listening and assessing member needs.
Ability to: work independently and as part of a team; handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy; discuss various credit union products/services; troubleshoot various problems and work toward resolution.
Physical and Environmental Criteria
This physical effort required to perform this position is best described as: Sedentary - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. The majority of this position involves computer work, which requires fine dexterity in the continuous movement of the wrist and fingers.
Sensory requirements necessary in the performance of the essential functions of this position include: sight, hearing, touch.
