Technology Assistant

 

Job Title:  Technology Assistant

Department:  Technology

Reports to:  Technology Director

Classification:  Support Staff (12 Month Employee 230 days)

 

Purpose Statement:

The job of technology assistant is to aid the Technology Director in keeping up with the daily tasks such as: help desk tickets and requests that come through the office each day, upkeep of the network, servers, set up of accounts and any projects that the technology department is working on. The technology assistant will also be the primary on the district website for content, design and management. The technology assistant will work to keep up to date with the ever changing technology equipment, software and/or applications. The technology assistant will aid the technology director in any tasks assigned and will occasionally manage various projects.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with the completion of day to day technology tasks (e.g.computer/chromebook troubleshooting and/or repair, help desk tickets, answering questions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a smooth school day for staff and students.

 

  • Will function as first tier help desk technician.

 

  • Will be designated as primary Google Administrator.

 

  • Will be responsible for the setting up of new accounts, logins and passwords for new staff and students including the tracking and receipt of tech agreements and assigning of new technology.

 

  • Will be responsible for the upkeep of the district’s website content, management of access to the website and handle redesign as contract and district allows. 

 

  • Assist the technology director in the upkeep and maintenance of all servers and/or networking equipment and processes.

 

  • Is responsible for the set up of new technology equipment and continuing maintenance on: Chromebooks, desktops, laptops, iPads, projectors, SMARTboards, phones, tablets etc.

 

  • Assist with the set up and management of the district hotspots and Wifi.

 

  • Assists the technology director with the training of staff on new hardware and software and/or may lead their own training. 

 

  • Assist in the inventory of all the district's hardware and some software for the purpose of assigning to staff and students as well as tracking.

 

  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training and conferences for the purpose of expanding their knowledge in the area of technology. Will need to attend some conferences during the year and spend overnights in hotels (paid by tech dept).

 

  • Will be required to assist in the event of an incident to evaluate the damage and aid in finding a resolution to the incident. 

 

  • Will need to be able to work off a ladder, have a basic understanding of maps and be able to occasionally come in contact with fiberglass insulation (only on some projects).

 

  • Problem solving skills are a must as they are necessary most times to solve a technology issue.

 

  • Be able to work independently and be proactive in finding things to do instead of waiting to be assigned a task.

 

  • Occasional late nights and weekends are a (rare) possibility.

 

  • Other tasks as assigned by the Technology Director or Superintendent.

 

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Setup and maintenance of all accounts, passwords, logins to devices and applications
  • Perform maintenance and repair to the district technology
  • Work on help desk tickets or in office visits as the need arises
  • Job is contracted for 230 days per year. Year runs July 1 - June 30. 

 

Other Functions:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the District’s technology infrastructure and communications.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.  Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: asking probing questions, time management; communicating with diverse groups; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and planning projects.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: informational systems and pertinent computer software applications.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.  Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.  Ability is also required to work with significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.  Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.  Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:  adapting to changing work environment and/or priorities; adhering to safety practices; being attentive to details; meeting deadlines and schedules; working with frequent interruptions; required to work some evenings and weekends; and working under time constraints.

 

Responsibility

Responsibility includes: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job functions.  

 

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions required the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires 40% sitting,  35% walking, and 25% standing.  The job performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk injury.

 

Experience: Job related experience is desired; but not required

 

Education: Targeted, job related education with study in job-related areas preferred but not required. The new hire will receive training on all tasks associated with the position.
