The Chemical and Nuclear Surety Lead is responsible for providing specialized expertise and oversight of Army programs related to chemical and nuclear surety. This key position ensures the Army’s compliance with Department of Defense, federal, and Army-specific regulations concerning the safety, security, accountability, and reliability of chemical agents and special nuclear materials. The Surety Lead serves as the principal advisor on all matters of surety, accident and incident response, and personnel reliability, working closely with the Treaty Compliance and Surety Division (DAMO-SSD) and other Army stakeholders. The role involves supporting policy development, reviewing compliance documentation, participating in inspections, and advising leadership on emerging risks and requirements in a challenging, highly regulated defense environment.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must have an active SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert on Army chemical and nuclear surety policies, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Provide technical guidance for the implementation and ongoing revision of Army surety policy documents and procedures (e.g., AR 50-5, AR 50-6, AR 190-17, DA Pam 50-5)
  • Monitor legislation, regulations, and guidance pertaining to chemical and nuclear safety, security, and incident response, and communicate relevant changes to stakeholders
  • Review and provide input on Army, DoD, and federal publications related to surety, security, and personnel reliability programs
  • Coordinate and support mandatory reporting, including the preparation, review, and submission of Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) status reports and trend analyses
  • Participate in meetings, inspections, surety management reviews, and working groups; represent the Army’s interests in surety-related forums as needed
  • Advise on requests for exceptions to guidance, surety status terminations, and related administrative actions
  • Ensure quality assurance for all surety activities and compliance with program milestones and deliverables
  • Mentor staff on surety best practices, workforce stability, and compliance requirements in a classified environment
