Job Summary:
Assist in the smooth daily operation of the MBL Gift Shop. Responsibilities include opening and closing the facility, operating computerized point-of-sale system; maintaining displays; moving and storing merchandise as necessary to maintain appropriate stock levels; depositing all revenue in timely fashion following detailed procedures for daily closeouts and associated reports; assist in maintaining inventory.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist in the smooth daily operation of the MBL Gift Shop. Responsibilities include opening and closing the facility, operating computerized point-of-sale system; maintaining displays; moving and storing merchandise as necessary to maintain appropriate stock levels; depositing all revenue in timely fashion following detailed procedures for daily closeouts and associated reports; assist in maintaining inventory. Assist with physical inventory.
Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, visitors, and the general public with a positive, helpful attitude. Provide accurate information about MBL tours and events.
Estimated hours: 30 hrs/week May – August
Additional Information:
This position requires weekend hours.
Basic Qualifications:
Retail experience strongly preferred. Familiarity with computers, preferably retail software helpful. Must have excellent customer service skills including friendliness, enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to work independently.
Familiarity with MBL and Woods Hole vicinity helpful.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires medium work (exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects). Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal and preparing/analyzing figures.
