SEDM Field Svc Tech

The Sinker EDM Field Service Technician will utilize communication skills, and proficiency in mechanical and electrical knowledge, to repair, troubleshoot, modify and test complex technical problems on Sinker EDM machinery and equipment.

This is a 100% travel position, Monday through Friday. Travel is primarily regionalized, but can be throughout North America, and in some cases, International as well.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Travel to customer locations to diagnose complex technical problems and perform on-site repair
• Examine machines mechanically and electrically in order to perform repairs by dismantling machines and rebuilding as needed
• Diagnose technical problems and troubleshoot via telephone
• Communicate professionally and effectively with customers
• Effectively interpret schematics and block diagrams to analyze and troubleshoot problems
• Document in detail product problems and resolutions
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge about operate computer using windows operating systems
• Working knowledge of how to read mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams
• CNC programming skills are a plus.
• Knowledge of electrical measurement and inspection techniques (voltmeter, oscilloscope and other measurement equipment)
• Knowledge of mechanical measurement and inspection techniques (indicators, micrometers, gage blocks and optical comparator. Knowledge of the Renishaw Laser Interferometer and ball bar a plus).
• Ability to travel when needed.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• 2 year Electronic or Technical Degree, or experience equivalent
• Experience with electro-mechanical machine tool systems

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Job operates indoors in a variety of temperature conditions, and can be exposed to changing weather conditions, such as extreme hot or cold, rain, sun, wind, etc.

The job involves work near moving mechanical parts with a moderate to loud noise level 

The position is a salary position, and will require work over 40 hours per week periodically. The ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job requires very frequent bending at the waist, twisting of the upper body, standing, speaking, hearing, and frequent kneeling. Repetitive use of the hands, squeezing, keyboarding, and crouching. Requires frequent lifting and carrying of 1-10 pounds, recurrent lifting of 11-20 pounds, and occasional lifting and carrying of 21-50 or more pounds. Also requires constant pushing and pulling of 1-50 pounds and infrequent pushing and pulling of over 50 pounds with the aid of handcarts or other wheeled devices. Good visual and color acuity are a must to perform this job.
