The McClendon Center, founded in 1980, is a certified community based service provider operating under the District of Columbia Department of Behavioral Health.  As a leading not-for-profit organization in Washington, DC, the McClendon Center provides outpatient behavioral rehabilitation to the mentally ill by fostering creativity, promoting friendship, instilling independence, and providing an outlet for emotional growth and greater participation in the community.    Accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the McClendon Center operates two programs: Day Program Services and the Core Services Agency (CSA).

McClendon Center operates programs in two locations, a day program near Metro Center and an outpatient service clinic in the NOMA section of DC. The Center has revenues of approximately $4.5 million, with contracts from the Department of Behavioral Health, three Managed Medicaid Organizations, and grants from various foundations.

McClendon Center is a respected and highly rated agency in the District of Columbia, having received the highest rating on the Department of Behavioral Health’s provider scorecard three out of the last five years. The Center is also the only independent mental health agency in the District to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Job Description

Please note that the salary for this role is commission based, with a strong earning potential.

McClendon Center and AmerihealthCaritasDC have partnered to identify at-risk members within the AmerihealthCaritasDC system. AmerihealthCaritasDC maintains a list of at-risk members who are believed to have behavioral health symptoms that cause them to be frequent users of services, but are not able to be located for appropriate follow-up care. The Post-ER Engagement Specialist (PEES) must locate these individuals, assist in conducting a behavioral health screening, and refer them to care management services at AmerihealthCaritasDC. This position consists of three main phases: engagement, investigation, and referral/completion

Engagement:

•The PEES will be assigned members based on criteria determined by AmerihealthCaritasDC.

•PEES will have access to all known information about the member. PEES will utilize effective communication and engagement skills to prompt consumer's involvement in utilizing healthcare options. 

Investigation:

•PEES will conduct at least five substantial outreach attempts as defined by DBH standards. Additional attempts may be conducted.

•All outreach attempts will be documented in the member’s Credible file. Documentation must be descriptive.

•Investigation activities are inclusive of the Engagement rate.

Referral/Completion:

•Once the member has been located and provided with health service options, PEES documents the member’s residence or other location, as well as any other information that will aid in continuing care and follow-up. The PEES staff member is compensated $90 per located member. 

•PEES contact the Patient Discharge Coordinator Clinical Supervisor to conduct a behavioral health screening. This may be accomplished in person, via Skype, face time, etc.

•Completion is achieved when the AmerihealthCaritasDC ‘s guidelines are met for the member being in active outpatient care.

•When all conditions for Referral/Completion have been met, the PEES will be compensated an additional $120 in addition to eh $90 compensation rate listed above. 

Qualifications

Must pass a background check and be free of any local or federal sanctions or exclusions. Must maintain client/member confidentiality at all times. Must conduct oneself with appropriate decorum so that the sterling reputation of McClendon Center is upheld at all times. Must operate with high ethical and moral standards, being forthright and honest at all times.

Ability to work within EMS, specifically Credible.  Must process strong written skills and document all outreach attempts thoroughly and in a timely manner. 

Strong organizational skills to include completing Excel spreadsheets to document and track efforts and outcomes of outreach. 

Must possess a strong passion to serve community members in an effort to promote health and wellness throughout various populations.
