The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics will provide dynamic and strategic leadership, management, and administration for McMurry’s intercollegiate athletics program. The Intercollegiate Athletics Director serves on the President’s Cabinet.

Job Duties:
The McMurry University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics must be committed to students who are also athletes. The qualified person will maintain the highest personal and professional standards while striving to:
- Shepherd a successful transition to McMurry’s new athletic conference, the Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference (SCAC).
- Develop and promote the departmental mission and implement policies and procedures to ensure the academic success and general welfare of student-athletes while fostering good relationships with the McMurry University faculty and student body.
- Implement, monitor, and enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance with institutional, conference, state, NCAA and federal rules, regulations, and laws;
- Assume ultimate accountability for sound business practices, budgetary and financial responsibility, and develop long term plans for responsible and sustainable management of operations, capital improvements, and program development in collaboration with the President and the Vice President for Finance and Administration;
- Approve departmental employee appointments, establish effective personnel evaluation processes, supervise and evaluate the performance of all coaches and personnel within the Department of Athletics;
- Review and periodically refine departmental organizational structure;
- Ensure systems are in place to monitor admissions, academic standing and academic progress of student athletes and coordinate with enrollment management on the integration of athletic recruiting and university recruiting;
- Provide strategic leadership for organizing and implementing a comprehensive annual athletic fundraising program in collaboration with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
- Provide strategic leadership and collaborate with facilities management to evaluate and enhance the condition of all athletic facilities and serve as liaison for high school playoff contests, tournaments, and other events;
- Communicate and advocate effectively with the students, faculty, staff, university administration, alumni, athletic boosters, and public and work closely with the Sports Information Director on publicity of the athletic programs to include, but not be limited to, digital media, news releases, brochures, and pamphlets.
- Submit timely reports, recommendations, and supporting documentation to the President, President’s Cabinet, the McMurry University Board of Trustees, the athletic conference, and the NCAA.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Department of Athletics and promote the mission and philosophy of intercollegiate athletics to on and off-campus constituents.
- Represent the Department of Athletics at university, community, conference, NCAA and other related meetings.
Occasional duties: As assigned.
Specific Required Qualifications for the Position:
- Advanced degree;
- Successful experience in athletic management/coaching;
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory, planning, and budget management skills;
- Successful fundraising and marketing in positions with increasing levels of responsibility;
- Collegial management style and ability to effectively delegate authority; and
- Commitment to gender equity and ethnic diversity.
- A record of achievement in NCAA Division III athletics administration supporting a successful comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program and demonstrated experience with brand marketing, public relations, media, community and campus engagement, fundraising, and budget/finance experience.
- He/she will demonstrate a strong sense of teamwork, communication, a willingness to adapt to change, problem solving skills, listening skills, public speaking skills, resource management skills, marketing and fundraising experience and an achievement-oriented attitude.
