Job Description: Patient Access Coordinator
Shifts Available: Fulltime
Job Summary: The Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Patient Navigators, as well as the Patient Access Lead in the day-to-day clerical operations of Registration and is available to assist employees on an as needed basis.
Essential Accountabilities
- The primary function of the patient access coordinator will work in conjunction with the patient navigator team to support general scheduling processes.
- The patient access coordinator will hold all job responsibilities of a Patient Access Registrar.
- The patient access coordinator will demonstrate proficiency in patient scheduling, new patient onboarding and paperwork, registration functions, reviews registration edits, and completes account corrections.
- The patient access coordinator will demonstrate the ability to direct patient phone calls, as well as coordinate and schedule future, same-day and walk in appointments on the provider schedules.
- The patient access coordinator will accurately document symptoms or complaints in the appointment chief complaint.
- The patient access coordinator will follow the procedures, policies, and protocols to ensure consistency and departmental effectiveness to aid in the improvement of the patient’s health care.
- The patient access coordinator, if trained by Patient Navigators and is necessary, will assist with prescription refills and communications, per protocols.
- The patient access coordinator will develop and maintain a day-to-day workflow process within the Patient Access Department and with the Clinic Patient Navigators to provide accurate and efficient patient services.
- The patient access coordinator will develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with physicians, nursing, supportive departments, manager, clinic, and nursing directors to provide excellent service for provider and patient needs.
- The patient access coordinator must have the ability to professionally ask patients for payments, overcome objections, accurately count money, and balance payments daily.
- The patient access coordinator needs to have a strong working knowledge of software systems in use: patient scheduling, patient registration, insurance eligibility, etc.
- The patient access coordinator will be advanced in analytical and problem-solving skills and hold basic mathematical skills.
- The patient access coordinator will have advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel.
- The patient access coordinator will attend training courses and meetings as required by the Patient Access Manager.

- Completion of HealthStream’s education by designated due date.
- Model positive and professional interactions between staff, leadership, providers, patients, and visitors.
- Read and respond to departmental emails and interdepartmental communications in a timely manner.
- Follow all hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including donning and doffing of appropriate PPE in your workspace.
- Understand and strictly adhere to HIPAA. Promote a HIPAA compliant campus.
- Must maintain a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the mission, vision, goals, and values of McPherson Center for Health.
- Foster collaborative relationships with peers in the department as well as other staff at McPherson Center for Health, with a particular focus on teamwork.
- Participate in professional development and educational activities. Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings and in-services.
- Must communicate time off requests by deadlines outlined by your supervisor.
- Perform other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or its educational equivalent and one to two years of satisfactory clerical/ scheduling experience.
- Ability to commute/relocate if needed. In person positions only available for Admissions.
- Capability to sit and work with a computer for extended periods.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools and operating a multi-line phone system.
