JOB SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join us as part of the 392d Combat Training Squadron’s (392 CTS) United States Space Force (USSF) Exercise Support Team at Schriever SFB, CO, as an Operations Planner for Orbital Warfare (OW). The team supports the 392 CTS led USSF exercises (e.g., SPACE FLAG (SF), POLARIS HAMMER, and SKIES series). Each of these exercises is designed to prepare Guardians to execute operations in a realistic contested, degraded, and operationally limited (CDO) environment against a thinking and determined adversary. The Operations Planner - OW works with our USSF Exercise Support team and Delta 9 stakeholders to design, develop, plan, execute, and assess orbital warfare training as part of 392 CTS-led USSF’s service-level exercises and mission-focused events. Location: Schreiver SFB, CO
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Serves as the 392 CTS’s USSF Exercise Support Team’s primary interface with Delta 9 and its subordinate units
- Works with exercise planners to develop Orbital Warfare exercise scenario timing, effects, anticipated player actions, etc., including (but not limited to) rendezvous proximity operations (RPO)
- Coordinates support and manning requirements with team subject matter experts and representatives from Delta 9 and its associated units
- Gathers information, establishes liaisons, and coordinates with key internal and external USSF exercise stakeholders to integrate OW training requirements into USSF service-level exercises or mission-focused events
- Works with other mission-specific operations planners to integrate OW capabilities, requirements, and effects within each exercise
- Identifies gaps and shortfalls in M&S tools needed to provide timely, realistic USSF exercise capabilities
- Assists with planning conferences, coordination meetings, training events, etc.
- Participates as part of the USSF service-level exercise’s White Cell and Exercise Control Group
- Captures, analyzes, and reports observations and lessons learned identified during the design, planning, and execution of USSF service-level exercises and mission-focused events
- Supports hot wash debriefs and after-action report development after each USSF service-level exercises or Delta 9-related mission-focused event
- Prepares event-related documents (i.e., trip reports, exercise planning/execution products, after-action reports, lessons learned, meeting minutes) within contractual time frames
- Carries out other tasks as directed by contract leadership required to ensure 392 CTS mission success
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10 years of space experience
- Current or previous experience working with Delta 9 (to include subordinate units) and/or orbital mechanics proficiency with DOD or National systems
- Experience working with orbital warfare payload missions
- Fundamental understanding of the ways and means to conduct orbital warfare and the tools used to plan and execute orbital maneuvers
- Understanding orbital warfare missions, capabilities and limitations, and command and control (C2) constructs
- This position requires limited travel (less than 4-5 weeks/year)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- Proficient with System Toolkit (STK) or similar orbital analysis software
- Previous SPACE FLAG experience
- Previous experience designing, planning, preparing, executing, and/or evaluating United States Air Force (USAF) space capabilities in Service, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) or Combatant Command (CCMD) exercises
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: 10 years of space experience, including at least 3 years specifically in Orbital Warfare.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Top Secret/SCI
