What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - Critical Care Medicine position at MD Anderson?
Advanced Practice Provider (APRN / PA) opportunity in the Critical Care Medicine Department. The ideal candidate must be an Advanced Practice Provider with at least one year of experience as an ICU APP. Procedural experience (central line and arterial line insertion) is preferred.
Shift: 5:15 am - 6:30 pm, 3 days per week with weekend and holiday rotation.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
Patient Care: Critical Care Medicine APPs in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit are responsible for: 1) Collaborating with attendings and the multidisciplinary team to manage a wide variety of critically ill medical and surgical patients. 2) Develop a treatment plan and evaluate patient outcomes. 3) Facilitating family conferences and participating in goals of care discussions 4) Ordering and interpreting various test(s), lab results, and or diagnostic images 5) Managing medication regimens.
Procedures: Critical Care Medicine APPs in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit are responsible for: 1) Performing select procedures such as Arterial line and Central Venous Catheter insertions based on competency and credentialing of the provider. 2) Complete procedure notes and submit appropriate charges within 24 hours.
Other duties assigned: Critical Care Medicine APPs in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit are responsible for: 1) Departmental and institutional committees; 2) Quality and safety initiatives; 3) Research; 4) Precepting/Mentoring; 5) Community engagement

EDUCATION:
Required: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.
Required: Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: None.
Preferred: At least two years of ICU APP experience. Procedural experience (central line and arterial line insertion). Oncology experience is a plus.

All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).

All of the following: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP).
