Garden Center Manager
We are looking for the garden center manager who can take our store to the next level.
Candidate should have an excellent knowledge of NW landscape and garden plants.
Members of Management will routinely be called upon to do the jobs or some functions of the job of all their subordinates and therefore should have the skill and capability to perform all the essential functions of all the jobs in the store.
Customer Service – Personally display a customer focused attitude and ensure all employees deliver extraordinary customer service.
Staffing – Responsible for hiring, training, discipline, time sheets, scheduling, promotions, pay raises and termination in accordance with company policies.
Managing People – Responsible for developing skills, as well as assigning duties.
Teamwork/Leadership – Contributes to building a positive team spirit by providing vision and inspiration to peers and subordinates.
Business Acumen – Understands business implications of decisions and works within approved budget.
Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
Strategic Thinking – Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals by understanding the organizations strengths and weaknesses.
Responsibilities include:
-Lead a team of staff members
-Oversee the set-up and take down of garden center displays.
- Assist customers in selecting plants, soils.
-General landscape design background.
-Answer any questions about care of plants or lawn and garden products.
-Assist store in seasonal changeovers inside and out.
- Control inventory and merchandising in the store and in the garden center.
-Order and control purchasing and inventory.
-Manage opening and closing the store.
-Have experience with Microsoft Office.
-Understand and have the ability to operate a Point of Sale system.
Attention to detail; must have excellent organizational skills and be able to juggle multiple tasks.
-Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide personalized assistance to a diverse range of customers.
- Knowledge of retail math principles for inventory management and purchasing decisions.
- Familiarity with cash register operations and handling financial transactions accurately.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus for effectively communicating with a diverse customer base.
- Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems for efficient order processing and inventory tracking.
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance practices for maintaining a visually appealing garden center.
- Proven ability to sell products and meet or exceed sales targets.- Use retail math skills to analyze sales data, track inventory levels, and make informed purchasing decisions.
- Operate cash registers and handle financial transactions accurately.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the garden center, including watering plants, pruning, and general landscape maintenance.
- Collaborate with vendors to negotiate pricing, place orders, and ensure timely delivery of products.
- Train and mentor staff members on product knowledge, customer service techniques, and sales strategies.

- Ability to operate a forklift safely and effectively – certification provided and required
- Fine motor skills requirements include keyboarding, using a computer mouse, and writing
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. consistently and 70 lbs. occasionally
You must have 3 years previous garden center and management experience, this is not an entry level position. You must understand customer first and have a positive upbeat attitude on a daily basis. Excellent communication skills between customers and co-workers a must. This position requires a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
This is a full-time position with weekend hours as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 48 per week
