Position Summary
Performs responsible and skilled work engaging in solid waste equipment operation and site operation. This position, under minimal supervision, is responsible for operating technically complex equipment and ensuring safety procedures are followed during solid waste operations. This position is responsible for waste screening activities, customer service interaction and may train others within this job series.

This position will primarily report to Hickory Grove Recycle Center. This candidate will work in all areas of site operation on site safety, customer service, Household Hazardous Waste and Equipment Operation. Will work as lead and may direct coworkers on daily tasks as well assist with customer service issues. Will work most Saturdays typically with a day off during the week to be determined that best works for facility operations.

Essential Functions
Perform load inspections on waste materials such as Yard Debris, Construction and Demolition Debris, Household Hazardous Waste and monitors incoming loads for unacceptable materials
Operate a variety of equipment in the processing, collection and disposal of recyclables, garbage, trash, and/or refuse. This will include a large variety of heavy and light duty equipment including backhoe, open wheel loader, high-lift loader as well as other specialized equipment as needed.
Keep work area clean and free of debris to prevent damage to incoming vehicles
Assist with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools
Monitor the safety of job sites and co-workers
Operate solid waste vehicles that require a CDL
Work Environment may vary based on assigned duties

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of six years of experience.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A

Licenses and Certifications
Requires County Driving Privileges
Requires a Class A or B CDL
Requires the ability to complete annual Household Hazardous Waste required training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of
Equipment used in solid waste operations maintenance, and construction
Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
Thorough knowledge of state traffic laws and regulations
Working knowledge of Household Hazardous Waste and safe acceptance practices
Working knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance
Working knowledge of computers

Skills
Operating large complex Diesel and hydraulic equipment
Performing work, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
Ability to interpret written plans and permit requirements of solid waste facilities
Ability to train others in lower classes on the safe operation of heavy equipment
Situational awareness of job sites, changing conditions and operating needs
Skilled with using tools and related equipment
Skill in the operation of a variety of heavy construction equipment
Ability to read and comprehend maps
Ability to work independently
Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and make minor repairs
Ability to safely operate equipment
Ability to lead others
Ability to work outside with regular exposure to severe weather, noxious fumes, high levels of dust, etc
Ability to comprehend and abide to safety practices
Ability to maintain effective relationships with citizens, employees and supervisors
Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Ability to use electronic equipment related to heavy equipment, such as routing tablets, engine diagnostic devices and drive cams.

Works in outdoor exposed to weather conditions
