MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) is an award-winning inpatient care hospital located in the heart of Washington, D.C., specializing in treating persons with physical disabilities, including spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, arthritis, amputation, multiple sclerosis, post-polio syndrome, orthopedic, and other neurological conditions 

 

MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital's Nurse Residency program provides support to new graduates as they transition to professional practice. The program is designed to provide each nurse with the tools necessary to deliver safe, effective, and competent high-quality patient care. 

 

The Nurse Residency program is managed by experienced clinical educators who facilitate both classroom and clinical orientation components. Our dedicated educators provide participants with an exceptional level of individualized attention throughout the residency program. 

 

 

Positions available in the following Units:   Cardiac & Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury or Pediatric Rehabilitation. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

 

The rehabilitation clinical nurse is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered rehabilitation nursing services to individuals with a disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. The rehabilitation clinical nurse assists patients in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for client's and their family's development. The rehabilitation clinical nurse designs and implements treatment strategies based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and promotes physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health. Rehabilitation Nurses perform in roles as Teachers, Caregivers, Collaborators and Client Advocates. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will add “Life to Years” for the patients you will serve.

Qualifications 

 

  • Education: ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required. 

 

  • RN Academic Requirement: For new graduates hired with an associate degree, employment with MedStar National Rehabilitation is contingent upon enrollment into an accredited BSN program within six (6) months of employment, and continuing matriculation in the program to achieve a BSN within 3 years of the program start date. Proof of enrollment to be submitted to Nurse Leader. 

 

  • Certification/Registration/Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington, D.C. and BLS is required
