Medtronic’s Tempe, Arizona Microelectronic Solutions location is looking for a Program Manager that will accept the challenge of program execution in operations/released product engineering for a new startup area within Medtronic. In this exciting role as a Program Manager, you will have the responsibility for a variety of operations centric programs, which includes activities such as (but is not limited to) manufacturing transfers among global locations, production ramp PM activities, and continuous improvement projects throughout the product lifecycle.

Candidate should have experience in leading projects or programs in an engineering environment. This role will interface with Product Development, operations, released product engineering, test, quality, supply chain, internal/external auditors, vendors, as well as other extended team members in a medical application. Individual should have strong skill in attention to details and be able to work across a matrix to accomplish goals. Individual should have prior experience or working knowledge in business process improvements around Design Controls, operations, released product engineering, ISO13485, and/or 21 CFR Part 820.

A Day in the Life:
  • Sets clear direction and management that aligns with defined practices and policies. Ensure projects are executed in accordance with applicable procedures and policies.
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate, produce, transfer, and manage engineering projects to ensure delivery of a product or computer-based system through the appropriate regulatory and compliance processes, and into a finished state for external customers.
  • Recommends new policies and procedures that affect program management, positively influences procedure owners partner with PM and team to successfully implement changes
  • Communicates and leads meetings with internal and external customers and vendors, conducts briefings to higher level management team
  • Accountable for planning, initiating, monitoring, tracking and/or prioritizing engineering team's product development programs or projects and facilitating successful, on-time and within budget execution.
  • Direct involvement in daily tasks necessary for successful program execution, including both driving and owning engineering work, decision making, and fundamental program management best practices.
  • Solves issues through information exchange, influence and active persuasion without direct exercise of command to gain cooperation of other parties on program execution plans
  • Directs day to day activities for multiple work-stream teams through managing project plans, resourcing, status reporting, resolving issues, identifying project risks and accountability for deliverables across multiple functional organizations.
  • Establishes meaningful metrics.
  • Accountable for project performance, risk management, administration, financial management, budgeting, capital planning, forecasting and issue resolution.
  • Interfaces with all applicable external stakeholders for the project including end users and suppliers. Accountable for positive relationship establishment, growth, and maintenance with both internal and external customers leading to strong partnerships and project successes
  • Accountable for partnership with functional management to integrate and meet departmental as well as program goals.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, functional managers, and customers. Perform lessons learned on projects and make information available to other project teams.
  • Participate in cross functional strategic and/or Annual Operating Planning (AOP) processes.
  • Conduct Project Phase Review in a professional and unbiased manner.
  • Measure and assess the effectiveness and performance of project teams and provide input regarding the performance of individuals on the teams.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or technical discipline with 5 years of experience in engineering, research & development, or medical devices OR Advanced degree in engineering, science or technical discipline with 3 years of experience in engineering, research & development, or medical devices
  • Previous experience leading cross functional projects or programs
  • Operations, Manufacturing, and/or design transfer experience
  • Design control background
  • Part 820 & 13485 experience
  • Audit experience
  • Knowledge of owning tasks in CAPAs or CAPA ownership, as well as NCR and PRB experience
