Lead Estimator

Job Summary 

The Construction Estimator is responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves collaborating with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure that all aspects of the project are considered in the estimation process. 

Key Responsibilities 

Cost Estimation 

• Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates. 
• Calculate material, labor, and overhead costs to determine project budgets. 

Bid Preparation 

• Prepare and submit competitive bids for construction projects. 
• Collaborate with project managers to develop bid strategies and pricing. 

Market Research 

• Conduct research on market trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure accurate estimates. 
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to gather pricing information. 
• Work with Sales Team to determine appropriate projects to bid. 
• Follow public bid results to track critical data and trends for future bids. 

Collaboration 

• Work closely with architects, engineers, and project managers to clarify project requirements and specifications. 
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project scope. 

Documentation 

• Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project changes. 
• Prepare reports and presentations for management and stakeholders. 

Risk Assessment 

• Identify potential risks and challenges in project execution and incorporate them into estimates. 
• Recommend strategies to mitigate risks and manage costs effectively. 

Continuous Improvement 

• Stay updated on industry standards, construction methods, and estimating software. 
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities. 

Qualifications 

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. 
• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role. 
• Skills: 
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage, ProEst). 
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills. 
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. 
• Attention to detail and organizational skills. 

Working Conditions 

• Office environment with occasional site visits. 
• May require extended hours during peak bidding periods.
