This position requires that the employee must successfully complete criminal history information background check and drug screening and be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
INTRODUCTION
The General Clerk provides the administrative support necessary to operate the custodial contract site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
*1. Answers telephone in timely manner; takes and relays accurate messages from the custodial contract office, other Melwood offices, Project Manager, Operations Manager, foremen and/or other custodial personnel.
*2. Files all paperwork, completes reports, contact sheets, attendance records, etc. and maintains employee files.
*3. Processes inspection reports and maintains deduction totals.
*4. Processes completion reports, calculates the pricing on each and assists in the preparation of the monthly invoice.
*5. Receives the weekly delivery of laundry and mops, and maintains the records for these items.
*6. Orders supplies and equipment, and maintains supply and equipment inventory.
*7. Operates and ensures maintenance of office equipment: copier, typewriter, calculator, etc.
*8. Obtains vacation and sick day totals for staff and workers.
*9. Ensures time cards are punched correctly; makes necessary corrections.
*10. Ascertains daily attendance of workers.
*11. Maintains daily progress chart on services performed on a monthly basis.

The incumbent is supervised by the Project Manager.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must be able to stand/walk 10% and sit 90% of the work time in order to perform copying, mail distribution, data entry, etc. He/She must be able to carry 50 pounds in order to properly stock office supplies; must be able to stoop, kneel and crouch to perform filing and to reach and handle for mail distribution. He/She must be able to communicate effectively with staff, workers, counselors, vendors and the general population; good vision and hearing are necessary in order to perform all duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of clerical experience are required. Must possess good administrative skills including a minimum typing speed of 35 WPM. Must be flexible and capable of prioritizing and organizing work.
