Job Description:

The Retail Assistant Manager is responsible for helping carry out the essential functions of the Retail Department as determined by the Retail Manager. The Assistant Manager is instrumental in helping and delegating day to day activities for the Retail Sales Associates with activities including; tagging merchandise, restocking retail items, and assessing inventory needs from the warehouse as well as items that need to be reordered. As well as working with the Retail team, the Assistant Manager will help with administrative tasks as needed, including inventory reporting and reordering and properly documenting damaged and lost items, promotional and marketing giveaways, inventory counts and adjustments as well as managing special projects including seasonal sales, offsite event sales and warehouse coordination under the supervision of the Retail Manager.

How you will do it...

  • Assist with managing labor, productivity, scheduling, quality control, and safety measures for the assigned departments

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws

  • Encourage, and maintain internal and cross-departmental communication

  • Assist with training staff to provide a memorable and uniquely Meow Wolf level of service to guests

  • Models and enforces proper cash management protocols by delivering POS training to staff and following company policies for cash handling and cash room compliance

  • Assist Retail Manager with supervision of Retail Associates

  • Assist with recommending, creating, and communicating policies and procedures

  • Fulfill all Managers on Duty duties, skills, and knowledge, including the ability to perform any role within the Retail area, including opening and closing

  • Maintaining knowledge of events, special programs and projects and communicating them to the staff

  • Assist with tracking fluctuations in visitation numbers and adjusting staffing levels accordingly

  • Assures the store is properly stocked and visually merchandised as required

  • Support and contribute to Loss Prevention policies and procedures

  • Ability to do all retail positions from cashier, greeter, stocker, etc.

  • Generating inventory reports and velocity reports for placing inventory reorders

  • Ordering operating supplies for the gift shop department as needed

  • Coordinating inventory pick up and drop offs from warehouse and vendors

  • Coordinating restocking and storage needs with staff

  • Working on special merchandising projects with coordination from Retail Manager

  • Recording giveaways and promotional giveaways

  • Placing reorders of merchandise under supervision from Retail Manager

  • Submitting and tracking invoices when necessary

  • Respond to injuries and emergencies appropriately

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to lead and manage staff

  • Good judgment in difficult and complicated management situations

  • Ability to maintain an appropriate, dispassionate demeanor in emergencies, difficult customer interactions, and interactions with personnel

  • Follow and enforce safety rules

  • Adaptable to changes in a fast-paced work environment

  • Minimum 3 years leadership experience in retail/entertainment/operations environment

  • Proven work experience as a Retail Supervisor or similar leadership role

  • Hands-on experience with point of sale systems

  • Strong service skills and welcoming demeanor required

  • An interest in the arts

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays

  • Experience training staff and identifying training needs

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

It would be nice to have...

  • Prior work experience in a retail, exhibit, attraction museum, or other public space

  • Adult Child Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid certification

  • Hidden talents that can be employed as part of the persona including singing, dancing, magic, comedy, conversationalist, impersonator or otherwise

  • Prior experience with visual merchandising

  • Dual language skills, especially but not limited to English and Spanish

Work Schedule: The schedule for this role is anticipated to be Friday - Tuesday evenings/nights. Schedules are based on business needs.

Work environment & physical demands...

This position works primarily in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/or enclosed spaces. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to lift up to 40lbs, remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
