What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supplier Quality Technician position at Mercury Marine?
As a Quality Technician, you will work collaboratively and independently within the Supplier Quality Department supporting the manufacturing process. You will assist with maintaining data related to supplier quality, leading the process of returning non-conforming parts to suppliers, coordinating external testing, and other tasks as needed to support Supplier Quality. You will work with a team of managers, engineers, supervisors, technicians, and production employees as you own and manage assigned Supplier Quality projects and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Test, analyze, and report results for supplier quality issues.
- Accurately log data from warranty returns and lead the parts return process for key engine components.
- Assist in updating reports and dashboards to support Supplier Quality.
- Coordinate external testing as required.
- Verify materials received correspond to the documentation provided with the shipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality relative to warranty agreements.
- Package and prepare product returns for shipment to suppliers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associates degree in manufacturing, engineering, science, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and relevant technical training.
- 3 years of experience in a manufacturing setting within quality or manufacturing operations.
- Ability to use equipment such as power and hand tools, micrometers, gauges, fixtures, etc.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot issues.
- Be proficient in the use of inspection equipment and ability to run basic root cause analysis on quality defects.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and engaged learner.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong computer skills including Power BI and Power Apps experience preferred.
- Math background with experience in basic statistics or eager to expand knowledge on data and how it can improve quality.
- Basic knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Process Failure Modes Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Quality Control Plans, mistake proofing, Nonconforming Material Reports (NMR), Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and ISO Quality System processes
