What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer II position at Mercury Systems?

In this role:

Work in a collaborative team of Mechanical, RF, and Digital Engineers to design electro-mechanical subsystems for Defense and Aerospace applications. Responsibilities include mechanical packaging and layout, as well as analyses (thermal, structural, and reliability) of complex subsystems for high reliability applications. Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Provide direction to support personnel on prototype fabrication and packaging documentation.

You are responsible for:

  • Responsible for the design, development, analysis and documentation of mechanical systems for new and existing products Specifically, electro-mechanical packaging and layout of assemblies utilizing SolidWorks and ACAD. Ensure designs meet customer thermal, environmental, and structural requirements
  • Manage all mechanical related activities to ensure designs are completed within schedule and budget
  • Responsible for thermal and structural analyses of designs utilizing FEA software such as SolidWorks Simulation
  • Participates and/or directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication
  • Provide technical interface to customers, subcontractors, assemblers, fabricators, consultants, and vendors/suppliers as applicable to system-level power, packaging, and cooling solutions
  • Network with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise
  • Interface with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure designs are highly manufacturable
  • Create full documentation packages and manage release process into company documentation system
  • Create and manage all aspects of mechanical BOMs

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years related experience preferred
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and ACAD
  • Strong analytical skills related to heat transfer and vibrations
  • FEA experience utilizing CAD tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent
  • Good understanding of metal fabrication and finishing processes such as machining and plating
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Well experienced with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface and clearly communicate with many different technical disciplines.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain DOD security clearance

Full-Time Equivalent Annual Salary Range: $74,000 - $119,000 for a Technical Individual Contributor II at Oxnard CA USA.

* internal equity with others employed by Mercury in similar roles;
