What are the responsibilities and job description for the College and Career Readiness Coordinator position at Mercy Education Project?
Mercy Education Project (MEP) provides educational services for underserved girls and women who live primarily in southwest Detroit. Under the supervision of the Co-Directors of Girls’ Programming, the College and Career Readiness Coordinator will create and implement an updated College and Career Readiness (CCR) program and oversee it during the school year. The goal of CCR is to better prepare students for the process of applying to college and/or transitioning to their next career. This includes but is not limited to: SAT preparation, FAFSA assistance, scholarship searching, resume workshops, and career speakers. The CCR Coordinator will also assist with the After-School tutoring program on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. This position is Monday-Thursday from 1:00pm-7:00pm from September to May and daytime hours during the summer and on school breaks. Occasional weekend availability is required.
Summary of Main Responsibilities:
· Update and revamp the current CCR program to fill in the gaps from what is being provided in the local High Schools (Cass Tech, Western, Caesar Chavez Academy)
· Oversee the CCR program on Wednesday evenings from 4:30-6:30
· Recruit 9th-12th grade girls from the local high schools to attend our programming
· Recruit and maintain contact with guest speakers, presenters, and/or outside programming to better meet the needs of the girls
· Create and implement and Alumnae Association for MEP Girls’ Programming graduates
· Plan, organize, and attend college visits throughout the year
Summary of Additional Responsibilities
· Monitor tutor and student attendance and quickly adjust in the event of absences, notifying appropriate staff/tutors of absences in a timely fashion
· Work closely with the Co-Directors of Girls’ Programming to ensure a successful CCR and tutoring program including attending weekly meetings and daily check-ins
· Assist in food service for mealtime and other daily tasks as they arise
· Substitute tutor as needed
· Maintain, organize, clean and open the Prize Closet for students
· Assist Co-Directors with various program tasks as needed
Required Qualifications/Abilities:
· Bachelor’s degree
· Excellent planning, networking, organizational, and time management skills
· Efficient communication skills both with staff and community partners/ colleges/universities
· Skillful in successfully coordinating multiple programs or projects
· Experience building rapport and working with a diverse student population
· Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team
· Willingness to adapt to daily programming needs
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites
· Complete a background check and fingerprinting as required
· Preferred bi-lingual in Spanish and English
