About Community Housing Advocates

Community Housing Advocates (CHA) is the parent company of Mercy Housing and Shelter and My Sisters’ Place, who joined forces in 2018. For over thirty-five years, these two agencies have provided housing assistance and supportive services to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. CHA works to empower its clients to become independent, so they may live and work with dignity and respect. CHA also seeks to end homelessness by advocating for changes in the social systems that perpetuate homelessness.

CHA hosts multiple housing sites offering short-term and long-term housing for individuals and families. Through these sites and its related programs, CHA has helped thousands of people in our community, providing them with a warm place to stay, food for themselves and their children, and services that are designed to get them back onto the road to independence—including medical care, management of financial affairs, and much, much more.

Position Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Operations Specialist works closely with a wide range of senior staff, providing technical and project support to IT, Human Resources and other departments in supporting workforce needs. The OS supports managers and employees through a variety of tasks, while being responsible for confidential and time sensitive material. The Operations Specialist will be the point of contact for third party IT and HRIS vendors and will manage projects of moderate complexity.

This position is perfect for a bright, motivated and tech-savvy generalist with strong people and analytical skills. It provides an exceptional opportunity to gain cross-functional experience in non-profit administration and management. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently on projects, demonstrate exemplary administrative, organization, anticipation, and communication skills, and operate in a fast-paced corporate environment with a high level of professionalism and discretion. Strong time management and project management skills are essential, along with promoting a positive, professional, cooperative working environment and team approach. This position requires strong written, oral, and computer skills, including proficiency in Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other software systems as needed. Project management experience is a plus.

The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including in virtual settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and payroll/HR software
  • Clean driving record and ability to travel to multiple sites within Hartford
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2-4 years’ professional experience in an office setting with similar responsibilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple workstreams.
  • Proficiency in project planning methodologies, tools, and leading change through data-driven solutions.
  • Tech savvy, with an ability to help users troubleshoot the simplest desktop IT issues, and to accurately convey more complex issues to IT support.
  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions and responds to management direction.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have valid Connecticut driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of automobile insurance.

COVID-19 vaccination required.

Compensation & Benefits

$55,000-$60,000 annually based on experience.
