Responsibilities
The Coding Specialist identifies, reviews, interprets, codes, and abstracts clinical information from inpatient, observation, and in / our surgical records for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal and state regulations and other agencies utilizing established coding principles and protocols.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or related field from an accredited two-year college or technical school, or Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in Health Information Management or in a related field or have a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder - Hospital Outpatient (CPC-H) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) designation.
- A minimum of 2 years acute care facility coding experience or the candidate must have been employed as a HIS Coding Specialist I or equivalent position.
