Overview:
Provides coordination of care and interpretation services for Spanish speaking patients/families in the JFK Clinic.
- Follows confidentiality policy and procedure.
- Maintains safe working environment.
- Reports any incidents/sentinel events following policy.
- Serves as patient/family advocate and identifies social needs of patient/family and coordinates services with social worker and/or other team members.
- Schedules and coordinates additional interpreters as needed.
- Works cooperatively and effectively with the medical center staff.
- Takes initiative when necessary to present/resolve problems and identify opportunities to improve care or service. (i.e. language/cultural differences)
- Translates information into Spanish for patients/family (i.e. forms, health information sheets).
- Ensures patient/family understanding of all paperwork, services available and clinic expectations.
- Responsible for Spanish phone-triage telephone line.
- Relays information between patient/family and healthcare worker to ensure understanding of physical exams, treatments, tests, and making appointments and follow up visits.
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor and represents the medical center effectively and positively in professional and community settings.
Demonstrates competence in initiating and maintaining use of routine equipment and procedures.
Qualifications:
Other Skills: Fluency in both English and Spanish required. Interpreter will have strong communications skills, assessment/interview skills, critical thinking skills, analytical skills, listening skills, flexibility/openness to change, problem solving skills and interpersonal skills.
