Interventional Radiology (IR) is an outpatient procedural department. Broad patient populations come to IR for diagnosis and/or treatments. The minimally invasive surgical procedures are conducted via vascular (vein) access, such as catheters and needles, which are guided by various medical imaging modalities (i.e. CT, fluoroscopy). The department conducts various cases on all areas of the body, excluding the heart. In the procedural room – there is one doctor, one RN and one tech. RNs do patient sedation, monitoring and circulating during the procedures and help turnover rooms between cases. Many cases are fast paced and complex making this a great opportunity for an RN seeking to utilize critical thinking skills in a highly acute, procedural setting.
