ACCOUNTANT / FINANCE MANAGER

Status: Full-time Exempt (as detailed in US Dept of Labor Wage and Hour Division Fact Sheet 17A)

Applicable Exemption: Administrative

Supervisor: President/CEO

The purpose of this position is to perform auditing and accounting functions including auditing of financial records, budgeting, analysis, statistical reporting, provision of guidance to administration, and to assist the President in overseeing operations and activities of the Meridian Airport Authority.

The following duties are required for this position. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and can be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities assigned and required by management that it deems applicable, indicated, or necessary at any time, with or without notice.

Performs office and non-manual work which is directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer and its customers. Exercises discretion and independent judgment with regards to significant business matters.

Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.

Consults with other employees as needed to review activities, provide recommendations, resolve problems, and receive and provide advice/direction. This includes consulting and answering questions on the use of QuickBooks and other accounting systems used by employees.

Prepares the Authority's annual budget including any mid‐year amendments, for review and approval.

Establishes and monitors internal controls and performs inspections and audits to eliminate misappropriation of funds. Prepares Airport comprehensive annual financial report and coordinates annual audit by outside firm.

Prepares monthly financial statements, statistical reports, and metrics regarding performance of the airport and its departments.

Performs audits of accounting records. Administers grants including reporting and draws.

Advises Authority personnel on accounting procedures, internal control matters or other procedural issues. Oversees all accounting/bookkeeping functions of all divisions to ensure accuracy and correctness.

Performs CPI adjustments on leases and monitors rates and charges for the services and products of the Authority.

Files sales tax reports, monitors month‐end and year‐end close outs of financial records and entries, prepares claims docket and board materials.

Oversees Authority's fixed asset system.

Compiles and/or monitors various administrative and statistical data pertaining to operations; performs research as needed; makes applicable calculations; analyzes data and identifies trends; prepares or generates reports; maintains records.

Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections as appropriate; utilizes QuickBooks, word processing, spreadsheet, accounting, calendar, or other software programs.

Communicates with employees, state/federal officials, financial institutions, consultants, outside agencies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.

Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Communicate with supervisor, employees, board members, airport personnel, passengers, visitors, vendors, sales representatives, bank personnel, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Provides assistance to other employees as needed.

Conducts various errands as needed, such as picking up mail or transporting documentation/supplies.

Performs other related duties as required.

Physical Presence: The presence of the employee or collaboration of the employee in person is required.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to coordinate, manage, and/or correlate data. Includes exercising judgment in determining time, place and/or sequence of operations, referencing data analyses to determine necessity for revision of organizational components, and in the formulation of operational strategy.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to function in a managerial capacity for a division or organizational unit. Includes the ability to make decisions on procedural and technical levels.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to solve algebraic problems and perform statistical analysis; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ratio, and proportion; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or synthesis functions; to deal with several concrete and abstract variables; and to analyze major problems that require complex planning for interrelated activities that can span one or several work units.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in critical and/or unexpected situations involving moderate risk to the organization.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, or closely related field; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training that includes accounting or auditing; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Candidates and employees must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age, fluently speak and read the English language, be authorized to legally work in the United States of America, and possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
