What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Music position at Messiah Lutheran Church?
Director of Music
Responsibilities of this position shall be :
Worship :
1. To lead the congregation in music in Sunday worship services.
2. To play the organ and / or keyboard and possibly direct the choir at worship services.
3. To provide services for the festival worship services of the congregation (e.g., Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Pentecost, and others, if scheduled).
Other Duties :
1. To recruit musically inclined members for music groups and for participation in the choir.
2. To direct the choir practices. Note : No choir during summer months.
3. To possibly provide musical services at funerals, as available.
4. To possibly provide musical services at weddings and wedding rehearsal, as available.
5. To select music for worship services in consultation with the Pastor.
6. To keep a log of all music used in worship services for copyright purposes.
Other Considerations :
1. Director of Music reports directly to the Pastor and or Council President
2. Director of Music is a private contractor and is responsible to their own Federal and State taxes.
3. Paid vacation time of four (4) Sundays will be provided by the congregation. Substitutes and dates off shall be arranged ahead of time by the Director of Music and given to the Pastor.
4. Compensation for this position shall be based on experience with no withholdings.
5. A performance review shall be held on an annual basis.
6. The Director of Music may terminate services under this contract provided four weeks written notice is given to the Pastor.

Pay : $8,000.00 - $10,000.00 per year
