Nashville’s Metro Water Services is seeking experienced professional engineers, in the role as an Engineer 2. Positions are available in the Development Services, Engineering, System Services, and Stormwater Divisions. These positions will utilize their technical expertise and knowledge to manage and oversee complex projects/programs involving water, sewer and/or stormwater utilities.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university, Professional Engineering License and six (6) years of post-degree engineering experience, including two (2) years as a professional engineer
OR
Professional Engineering License and six (6) years of engineering experience, including two (2) years as a professional engineer.
NOTE: A Professional Engineering License from any state is required to apply for this position however, a Tennessee Professional Engineering License must be obtained prior to completion of the six-month probationary period.

- Manage assignments, review project designs and ensure regulatory approvals are obtained for plans developed by consulting firms.
- Evaluate the proper sizing and functioning of existing/proposed drainage systems.
- Coordinate with homeowners and community groups regarding existing drainage issues and proposed projects to address them.
- Manage contracts for Stormwater capital projects including reviewing/approving invoices.
- Review, coordinate, negotiate, approve, and document construction project field changes.
- Coordinate with various Metro and State departments regarding stormwater projects, permitting, etc.
Engineering
- Assures water and sewer projects are built incompliance to plans and specifications.
- Assures all regulatory protocols, including disinfection, are adhered to during construction.
- Supervises and manage outside consultants contracted to inspect work for MWS.
- Responds to inquiries from contractors, consultants, citizens, and internal customers related to construction projects.
- Reviews, coordinates, negotiates, approves, and documents construction project field changes
- Supervises internal inspection staff.
Development Services
- Perform technical engineering review for new development and redevelopment in the Metro Water Services’ service area applying associated industry, regulatory (Federal, State and Local), Metro Government and public health and safety standards.
- Respond to inquiries from contractors, consultants, citizens, legislators, and other Metro Departments / MWS Divisions.
- Assign and review development project plans to contract consultants as needed.
- Coordinate with other Metro Water Service (MWS) Divisions, Metro Departments and/or agencies on infrastructure-related projects.
- May supervise internal plans review staff.
System Services
- Manage maintenance contracts related to water and sewer infrastructure.
- Perform site investigations to troubleshoot system issues and develop action plan for resolution.
- Manage project assignments for repair and maintenance by external contractors
- Develop bid documents for contracts.
- Serve as the division’s Fleet Coordinator.
- Prepare reports and evaluate trends in the distribution and collection systems.
- Respond to inquiries from citizens, contractors, legislators, and other Metro Departments.
- May supervise internal staff.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Environmental or Water Resources.
- Project/program management experience.
- An understanding of engineering principles including the review, design, and construction of water and sewer infrastructure.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.
