Overview
Under direction, perform routine chemical, biological and physical analysis of samples collected from streams, industries, wastewater treatment plants, sludge and other potential sources of pollution.
Essential Functions: Performs a variety of regular and special inorganic, organic and biological tests in order to characterize samples of raw and treated wastewater, sludge, etc., such as biochemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, heavy metal analysis, suspended solids, phosphorus, ammonia, grease, nitrogen, etc.; assist the Chemist in performing special tests using advanced analytical instrumentation, such as gas chromatograph, ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometer, specific ion electrodes, etc.; calibrate instruments; prepares standards and reagents according to specific and detailed procedures and quality control criteria; notifies Chemist of unusual conditions or test results; assists in ordering laboratory supplies; maintains laboratory equipment; maintains records of tests performed and prepares reports.
Additional Responsibilities: Perform routine cleaning of laboratory benches and equipment; assist with special projects; perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisor.

Qualifications
Training and Experience:
- 60 college credit hours in related subjects, and two (2) years’ experience in water or wastewater laboratory analysis.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of modern test procedures, laboratory methods, techniques and equipment; good knowledge of safe work practices; skill in the proper use of various laboratory equipment; skill in applying approved techniques for making analysis and examinations; ability to make precise determinations; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
