Description

POSITION PURPOSE: 

Planning, establishing, implementing, overseeing and maintaining a variety of health, safety  and environmental programs to assist in establishing a safe environment for employees. Ensure that Meyer is striving  to maintain compliance and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. Be  well-versed in all OSH dictations. Being diligent and analytical to focus on injury prevention and have an eye for detail  and a sensitivity for potential dangers. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Developing and enforcing OSH policies.
  • Assisting with Worker’s Compensation claims, including filing, management, and oversight. 
  • Directing accident investigation procedures.
  • Conduct Risk assessments.
  • Enforce preventative measures and provides direction and support to employees, supervisors, and  management in safe work practices. 
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues.
  • Intervene in unsafe activities or operations.
  • Conducting safety walks for each building with local management quarterly and traveling to some outside  locations to conduct safety audits annually. Citing hazardous conditions, documenting and communicating  hazardous conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Identify company training needs, provide recommendations and corrective actions and processes to improve  safety and help to develop and coordinate safety programs.
  • Training and re-training as needed to improve job safety and expectations for individuals or groups.
  • Successfully conducting classroom and practical training for powered industrial truck certification and  compliance with training materials and documentation. 
  • Help to identify hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis and  observations.
  • Work with warehouse management and integration to ensure damaged racking from PIT incidents is being  addressed and repaired. 
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and  recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to reduce risk in the work place. 
  • Spending time in the warehouse on the floor overseeing operations. It is vital to be on the floor with  employees guiding and directing safe behavior, and correcting unsafe behaviors.
  • Support employees in selection and fitting of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Performing drug testing responsibilities for your location and proficient in reasonable suspicion. 
  • Conduct complete and accurate investigations to include interviews, reports, and follow-up on all work related injuries, accidents, and near miss events to identify root cause.
  • Liaison with warehouse, logistics, and all aspects of the Meyer team members to ensure safety is a top  priority. 
  • General reporting of the Worker's Compensation claims.
  • Training on PPE compliance.
  • Perform first aid as needed.
  • Perform safety talks with team members, to highlight awareness of trending incidents or concerns at  minimum weekly and as necessary or needed to address safety concerns, training, or trends. Log talk  agenda into Safety Shared folder. 
  • Traveling as needed to conduct training or accident/ incident investigations
  • All other duties as assigned.

PAY AND SCHEDULE: 

Salaried position working a minimum of 45 hours per week. 

  • General working hours will be Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00PM
  • Working 2 evenings a week with a schedule of 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Traveling schedule will be based on travel needs and site assessments (West Coast Locations) 

Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EXPERIENCE: 2 years of experience in safety or related field required or have a degree in risk  management or other safety related education preferred. Active first aid certification and completion  Certificate for OSHA 30hr class is preferred. 
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED required. Associate Degree in Business or related field  preferred 

 JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Must have positive attitude
  • Bilingual preferred, must be fluent in English and communicate in Spanish
  • Must have general knowledge of federal, state and local safety laws and regulations. 
  • Knowledge of office equipment including, copier, fax machine, computers, etc.
  • Ability to give special attention to detail required.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Must have excellent presentation skills.
  • Planning/organizing and follow up skills —the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time  efficiently and develops realistic action plans and follows up to ensure compliance.
  • Quality control—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure  quality.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
  • Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and  is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to  management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance. • Confidentiality - Must maintain confidentiality
  • Communication - Must have excellent oral and written communication skills up and down organizational  structure. 

Physical Demands:

  • Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. Manual dexterity for use of office equipment. Talking,  hearing, and seeing are essential.
