The Medical Assistant maintains patient records, prepares patients and rooms for examination, and assists physicians. This role performs various clinical and administrative tasks in a patient-facing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtain patient’s weight, height, and vital signs.
- Record the chief complaint and medications as stated by the patient.
- Prepare exam rooms and procedure rooms on behalf of the provider.
- Assist the provider as needed during the patient's exam or procedure.
- Administer medications or injections following a written physician order.
- Obtain educational material for the patient at the physician's direction and following physician’s written order.
- Call in prescriptions, following physician’s written order.
- Perform laboratory and diagnostic testing request following physician’s written order.
- Document medical records according to policy and procedure.
- Prepare and review procedure results on physician’s behalf.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Use CPR Skills when required.
- Dispose biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
- Practice OSHA safety standards.
- Behave professionally in all situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Education / Licenses
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Cardiovascular Technologist Diploma and Phlebotomist Certificate preferred.
- CPR or BLS required.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; must be able to read, write and speak English.
- 1 year experience in a clinical setting.
- Basic computer knowledge; MS Office, internet, document with Electronic Health Records and/or authorization system with minimal errors, sending e-faxes and email.
- Strong people skills, independent decision making, and customer service oriented.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Annual OSHA Training.
Salary : $29,800 - $37,800
