About Michigan Dog Training

Michigan Dog Training Inc. is a five star pet dog training facility that offers board and train, day training, private lessons, group classes, day care and boarding.

It's owner and founder, CEO and Dog Behaviorist is Michael Burkey. He is a former Police K9 Officer, Search and Rescue (SAR) K9 Training Director and SAR K9 Handler, obedience and rally competitor and Social Worker. Michael and his team specialize in helping high energy dogs and fearful aggressive dogs become ideal companions.

Michael is a dog behaviorist, celebrity dog trainer and an International Best Seller Co-Author who has been highlighted regularly on TV Channels 7, 4, and 2 News in Metro Detroit and has been the “On Set Dog Trainer” for movies and commercials. He is an Expert Trial Witness on dog behavior, Diabetic Alert Dog Trainer, Certified E-Collar Specialist, and a Certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator for the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Work Shift

Weekday Shifts are 6am-2:30pm and 2:15pm-10:45pm. Weekends are 7-2:30pm and 2:15pm-10:45pm. Days available include: Wednesday PM, Friday AM, Saturday AM, and Sunday mid shift or PM shift.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Previous dog training experience preferred but not required.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Train pet dogs to have good manners
  • Train Service Dogs
  • Care for dog's health, exercise (dog walking) and emotional well being
  • Manage organized play sessions of dogs
  • Clean dog kennels, sleeping areas, training rooms and outside areas
  • Perform Kennel Technician duties as needed

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Train pet dogs and Service Dogs through our board and train and Day Training programs as well as Private Lessons and Group Classes.

2. Perform animal grooming duties such as washing, brushing, cutting nails and cleaning ears

3. Clean, organize, maintain and disinfect animal quarters

4. Clean and maintain outside areas of facility (parking lot, sidewalks, grass areas, dog potty areas, by picking up litter/dog waste, pulling weeds, shoveling snow etc.)

5. Examine and observe dogs to detect signs of illness, disease or injury

6. Complete other assigned duties including Kennel Technician duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Must be able to hold a leash and control a dog that pulls and weighs up to 120lbs.

2. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk dogs and pick up and carry packages weighing 40lbs (such as a large bag of food).

3. Must be able to bend down to clean dog crates and other areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. Must be able to handle and walk a dog in various environments including in the heat, cold, rain and snow.

2. We keep a super clean facility but you must be able to work in an environment that includes the presence of dog hair.

3. Must be able to use and come in contact with cleaning chemicals and room deodorizers.

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 24 per week
