What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Supervisor position at Michigan Property & Casualty Guaranty Association?
The Michigan Property & Casualty Guaranty Association ("MPCGA") is an unincorporated association of all property and casualty insurers authorized to transact insurance in Michigan. The MPCGA was created by an act of the Michigan Legislature, ‘MCL 500.7901’ et seq., in order to protect the public against financial losses to policy holder and claimants as a result of property and casualty insurance company insolvencies. When a member insurer becomes insolvent, MPCGA has a duty to pay certain obligations of the insolvent insurer that come within the Act’s definition of covered claims. MPCGA does not handle claims arising out of life or disability insurance or annuity contracts.
MPCGA is looking for a Claims Supervisor possessing multi-line experience. The ideal candidate would possess claims knowledge in Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury Protection, and/or General Liability including residential and commercial claims experience for claims handled in the State of Michigan.
The Job Duties and Qualifications:
Typical Hours of Operation: M-F 7:30am-4:00pm
An Ideal candidate;
8-10 years of claims adjusting experience in the workers compensation, PIP, and/or liability fields.
3 years in Sr. Adjuster experience
3 years in leadership experience.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a business-related field
The Claims Supervisor will supervise 2-5 claims professionals in the investigation, settlement, and processing of claims. The ideal candidate will manage, lead and develop claims professionals, create an environment to provide opportunities for all direct reports to reach or maximize full potential, develop partnerships with other departments, including external constituents, minimize expenses, and directing the organization’s daily claims processing activities within the claims systems. Evaluates and processes litigation and non-litigation claims and handle complex claims; Ensures claims investigation and processing are conducted under the organization’s best practice procedures and guidelines including subrogation and recovery efforts; discuss strategy with claims professionals, attorneys, and other parties; approves settlement authority, check requests, and expenses. Attends and participates in the annual Claims Committee audit review process and helps with the execution of the reserve project.
This position may have direct oversight of professional exempt and/or nonexempt employees and is responsible for daily execution of tasks necessary for the organization to succeed in its operations. Handles workflow assignments and is first point of contact for employee questions/issues. The Claims Supervisor is responsible for the performance of their direct reports. This position requires an adjuster license and reports to the Claims Manager.
Computer Skills
Proficient in using Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Teams. Having some knowledge in utilizing claims systems. The candidate will work in the office and remote (after training period). The ideal candidate must be proficient in current role and have the ability to work from home having online capabilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Our Managers, Supervisors, and Adjusters are required to be licensed in the State of Michigan to perform the job functions and MPCGA will assist and pay for the license including renewal each year. If the candidate does not have an adjuster’s license in the State of Michigan, the candidate must obtain the license within the first 6 months of employment as conditional for continued employment. Designations of CPCU and AIC are desired but not required.
