Position Summary

Providing direct nursing care, counseling and instruction to patients, ensuring excellent patient care, providing essential support, and consistently demonstrating MSU core values.

Position Duties

• Provides direct nursing care to patients, performs examinations , and assists health care providers with medical procedures.
• Assists in coordinating total patient care which includes but is not limited to telephone triage according to established practice guidelines, patient education, medication refills and administering injections as necessary.
• Administers medications and performs patient procedures.
• Serves as an advocate and provides instruction and counseling to patients and their families.
• Assists in planning, maintaining, evaluating, and interpreting policies, procedures, and nursing care standards for the clinic while assuring compliance to clinic quality standards.
• Documents nursing actions in patients' records using the electronic medical record system to provide accurate medical records for future reference and accountability.
• Participates in interdisciplinary planning for meeting patient care and health service objectives.
• Assists in developing protocols for carrying out health care providers orders.
• Reviews laboratory results and initiates appropriate actions and communicate results with patients, physicians and others as appropriate.
• Orders supplies and equipment in order to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Performs necessary related activities in order to maintain clinic operations.
• Assists in setting and evaluating nursing care standards.
• Attends conferences, staff development programs and workshops.
• Coordinates services for patients utilizing other human service-related agencies and resources; follows up on health care of patients.
• Participates in interdisciplinary planning for meeting patient care and health service objectives.
  
  

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in Nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Work Hours

Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Thursday and 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Fridays, may vary as necessary to accommodate clinic operations.
