Cowles House Services Assistant

Position Summary

• Greets and provides high quality service to Cowles House guests and the first family, maintaining adherence to appropriate protocol and confidentiality.
• Cleans and assists in maintaining banquet equipment and decorations.
• Performs cleaning duties such as sweeping; dust mopping; floor vacuuming; and kitchen, bathroom and shower wet mopping.
• Cleans banquet rooms and kitchen service areas, and utensils such as silverware according to prescribed sanitary standards.
• Cleans and assists in maintaining banquet equipment and decorations. Dusts and washes windows, mirrors, interior glass, window casings and tracks, venetian blinds, ledges, furniture, equipment, and other household items.
• Spot washes walls, chairs, and sofas.
• Ensures trash and recycling are properly removed and disposed of; and waters household plant.
• Washes and irons household clothing and linens; makes beds and changes linen. Coordinates with linen vendors as needed.
• Cleans garage, basement, ranges, ovens, freezers, and other areas and equipment.
• Operates and maintains lightweight cleaning equipment such as vacuums and rug shampooer.
• Reports any damage, malfunction, or irregularity of the building or equipment to supervisor or proper authority.
• Maintains an inventory of supplies in accordance with cleaning and service needs.
• Stocks guest quarters and restrooms with supplies such as guest packs, soap, tissue, and towels.
• Follow University, departmental and OSHA safety regulations.
• Provides customer service to MSU Community and the public. Responds or informs supervisory staff of complaints, comments, and/or unmet service needs. Replace lightbulbs as needed.
• Clean and maintain equipment.
  
  

Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

• Provides care and service to guests and first family members.
• Waters plants in public areas.
• Maintains confidentiality.
  
  

Minimum Requirements

• 1 years of experience in residential or commercial housekeeping.
• Working knowledge of cleaning methods, techniques, and equipment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends.
• Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Summary of Physical Demands

This position will help with lifting banquet equipment, tables, chairs and transporting it to and from the event space. They will also carry laundry to and from the laundry which is on a separate level. They will be responsible for moving the TV on wheels and vacuuming.
