Fraternity & Sorority Life in the Division of Student Life & Engagement is seeking a talented professional for our Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life role. This position is a full-time professional staff member that will provide leadership to support and guide the Interfraternity Council, Order of Omega, leadership training, and Student Led Community Programming. The focus for the position will be advising students, communication with internal and external stakeholders, programming, and assessment review.
The community consists of 63 inter/national Greek letter organizations; Interfraternity Council (IFC, 29 chapters), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC, 11 chapters), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC, 9 chapters), Panhellenic Council (PC, 14 chapters). The approximately 5,000 affiliated students represent 14% of the undergraduate campus population. The Interfraternity and Panhellenic community live in off campus chapter houses owned and operated by individual chapter corporation boards.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Panhellenic Council (NPHC), Panhellenic Council (PC), and Order of Omega
- Advise the Interfraternity Council (IFC)
- Support major Greek community including, but not limited to: recruitment, Greek Fall Welcome, Safe Halloween, and Greek Week
- Work on assigned programs such as Greeks Take the Lead, new member education, leadership retreats and development, and academic achievement.
- Support IFC and PC Risk Management Team through training and development.
- Collaborate with the other offices and departments on campus to provide educational programming for the FSL community
- Co-Facilitate dialogue between undergraduate, alumni, national organizations, the city of East Lansing and the university around issues relating to the MSU Greek Community.
- Develop generalized and programmatic assessments for the FSL Community.
- Manage the @GoGreekMSU Instagram account and creatively publicize the community, important events, and updates.
- Other duties as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Social Science, Education, Business, Liberal Arts, or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience working with college students, programming, and knowledge of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors, North American Interfraternity Conference, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, National APIA Panhellenic Association, National Pan-Hellenic Council, National Panhellenic Conference, and/or other umbrella fraternal organizations or similar related volunteer activities; demonstrated working knowledge and proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
A commitment to the Fraternity and Sorority experience; knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters in Administration or a Behavioral Science field with coursework in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Educational Administration, Counseling, or related field; affiliation with an inter/national fraternity or sorority; previous experience working with The Interfraternity Council, the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), and Risk Prevention and Management; knowledge of assessment methods and activities; ability to assess programs and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive work environment, the spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change; ability to work in an environment of constant demands and frequent interruptions and have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands; work experience (typically 1 - 3 years) in higher education in advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life programs; preferably fraternity and sorority life programs; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and experience working with historically underrepresented student populations; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive work environment, the spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change.
