The Nursing Professional Development Coordinator for the MSU College of Nursing (CON) has administrative responsibility for the development and management of nursing professional development programs and activities for the CON and the Henry Ford Health System/MSU collaborative agreement (Health Science Center) partners. This position will report to the CON Associate Dean for Administration. The individual in this role is expected to work collaboratively with the CON faculty, staff, CON students, agency partners, and the Henry Ford Health System for nursing professional development activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of Nursing Professional Development (NPD) activities on behalf of the College of Nursing including supervision of nurse planners, project managers, planning committees and administrative support personnel.
- Serve as the Primary Nurse Planner (PNP) for continuing nursing professional development activities and management of the College of Nursing (CON) Approved Provider Unit as described by the Ohio Nurses Association.
- Recruit, orient and supervise nurse planners per guidelines provided by the Ohio Nurses Association.
- Collaborate with CON identified stakeholders in identification, assessment, and prioritization of practice gaps.
- Identify learning needs based on gap analyses and on-going data collection.
- Work with stakeholders to identify desired learning outcomes.
- Supervise planning and development of NPD activities consistent with the CON and University strategic plans. Identifying and prioritizing NPD interventions require strong critical thinking and communication skills in differentiating educational/learning gaps from performance, compliance and systems concerns.
- Supervise, coordinate, and participate in implementation of NPD activities as appropriate to align with the CON strategic plan.
- Lead the evaluation process for NPD activities, assuring quality outcomes and compliance with ANCC criteria for NPD.
- Lead activities to support change and solve problems for the CON.
- Develop collaborative relationships intentionally to further the work of the CON.
- Provide consultation with stakeholders and CON partners around education structures, processes, and outcomes in a manner consistent with the strategic plan.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Nursing
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Nursing is required for the rank of Instructor
- DNP or PhD degree in Nursing or related field is required for the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in nursing professional development
- Unrestricted RN license without probationary status (or eligible)
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in practice as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner or Specialist
Desired Qualifications
- NPD Specialist (graduate degree and current NPD certification)
- DNP or PhD in Nursing or related field
