Job purpose
The Quality Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, professional, and safe working environment always. Team members in this position run multiple tests in accordance with the Quality Work Procedures, ensure analyzations are completed in a timely manner that is established by the Quality Manager. If any results are out of range, it is the responsibility of the Quality Technician to report this information to the Quality Manager. This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding company policy, procedures, and values.
Duties and responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, professional, and safe working environment
- Perform quality assurance checks on every part of MAPF’s production process
- Coordinate test results with operators to ensure optimum quality and efficiency
- Maintain laboratory supplies and provide supply orders to the Quality Manager
- Perform tests in accordance with approved MAPF’s SOP’s and according to the frequency established by the Quality Manager and/or Operations
- Work with operations on special testing requests
- Ensure all data entry is completed in a timely manner
- Ensure all samples for projects/studies are collected in a timely manner
- Probe and collect samples for bulk ingredients and micro ingredients
- Ensure Quality Assurance water activity standards are performed in accordance to the frequency established by the Quality Manager
- Perform NIR analyzations for all incoming animal protein meals
- Perform mycotoxin testing on all incoming grains as well as finished product as needed
- Analyze and complete finished product composite samples in accordance with MAPF’s SOP’s.
- Perform peroxide value testing in accordance with MAPF’s SOP.
- Perform moisture analyzations in accordance with MAPF’s SOP.
- Perform water activity analyzations on all finished product composite samples
- Notify the Quality Manager when any quality control standards are not within specified limits
- Sample and unload bulk chicken fat tankers in accordance with the MAPF’s SOP’s.
- Receive bulk ingredient trucks into IQMS. Scale bulk ingredient trucks in & out
- Must be able to meet call-in requirements as well as work extended hours as necessary
- Must be able to work nights as well as flexible hours
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times
- Maintain a TEAM environment at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Basic troubleshooting skills and prior analytical experience preferred
- Preferred prior experience with NIR & Mycotoxin testing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and possess the ability and willingness to learn new software applications
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change
Working conditions
This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments. This position operates in multiple work environments, including plant environment and a laboratory environment. In the lab, the team member will work with a range of analytical instrumentation, multiple chemical reagents, sample diluents, and perform data entry on a shared company computer.
In the plant environment, the team member may be exposed to noise, heat and other elements both inside and outside. While performing the duties of this position, the team member will be exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and will be exposed to chemicals.
Physical requirements
- Occasionally lifting weight up to (60) sixty pounds
- Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders
- Opening and closing flow valves
- Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) fifty pounds
- Data entry while seated for greater than 1 (one) hour
- Walking up to two (2) or more miles a day
- Pushing brooms, shovels, etc
- Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from 0 to 100 plus degrees Fahrenheit
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Using hand and power tools
