The Early Learning Apprenticeship Coach provides ongoing and intensive Technical Assistance through Practice-Based Coaching and training to Early Childhood Apprentices. The Early Learning Apprenticeship Coach is focused on providing support to early childhood educators throughout the apprenticeship process by facilitating the setting of teaching practice goals, reviewing data, and altering practices to apply skills learned to achieve continuous high-quality early care and education. This position may support apprenticeship placements in Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties.

This position will be in Yamhill County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (Human Development, Child & Family Studies, Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology). Master's Degree preferred.
  • Step 10 on the Oregon Registry with coursework in early childhood development or an ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Three years of experience in an early learning program(s).
  • Two years of experience providing technical assistance or training, including coaching, to early learning educators/ programs or equivalent experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Driver qualifications are required for this position. Valid driver license, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and a satisfactory drive record for the previous three years are required.
  • Successful registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
  • Possess or ability to obtain master trainer status in Oregon Registry Online.
  • Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into teaching and coaching methods.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for children 0-8
  • Ability to use equipment necessary to carry out job responsibilities such as, but not limited to, computer and virtual training software such as Zoom and PowerPoint, early childhood management software, Google Sheets, and more.
  • Experience with identifying teaching practice needs
  • Ability to facilitate the implementation of teaching practice improvement goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

  • Facilitates the development of individualized coaching plans with early childhood educators that include teaching practice goals and the steps for achieving them.
  • Assesses early childhood educator teaching practices.
  • Collects and shares identified program and teaching practice data to support early learning program and system improvement.
  • Provides observational feedback that highlights strengths and areas of growth in teaching practices.
  • Schedules, plans, and facilitates on-site visits and coaching sessions throughout the year.
  • Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve outcomes for children and families.
  • Understands key competencies, best practice standards, licensing requirements, and grant requirements (e.g. curriculum, assessment, family engagement, NAEYC standards and competencies)
  • Provides coaching focused on, but not limited to, inclusionary practices, trauma informed practice, screening and assessment, educational planning, dual language learners, equity, and family engagement
  • Works collaboratively with Early Learning program administrators to support apprenticeship program.
  • Supports early childhood educators with professional development/ Oregon Registry/education goals.
  • Provides Early Childhood Education training and development to early childhood educators in person and/or virtually.
  • Supports placement opportunities in the community for early learning educators upon completion of apprenticeship programs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no supervisory duties in this position.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling office equipment.
  • Frequent driving in all weather conditions throughout Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving, resourcefulness, and creative thinking with minimal direct supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor, office work environment with frequent interruptions and demands.
  • Working with coworkers/clients over the phone, using video conferencing tools and in-person.
  • Occasional noise and distractions in work spaces.
  • Frequent on-site support at participating apprenticeship locations.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.
