Posistion Overview:

Middlesex County is seeking a full-time Supervising Mechanic for the Light Equipment Garage supporting the Division of Public Works within the Department of Transportation. Duties will include Supervising the workflow in the Light Equipment Garage to ensure timely and efficient repairs to light equipment vehicles, and grounds/parks equipment. The Supervising Mechanic is responsible for employee evaluations and recommending the hiring, promoting and/or disciplinary actions of employees. Works directly with the service writer for scheduling of all department repairs. In addition, the Supervising Mechanic will perform diagnostics, and repairs on light equipment grounds/parks equipment when deemed necessary.

Requirements:

• The successful candidate will have 4 years of experience in vehicle maintenance repair. This includes successful completion of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school.
• Required to possess valid NJ driver’s license, along with a CDL (B) is required with air brake endorsement or may be obtained within 6 months of hiring.
• An Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in one of the following specialties from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence may be substituted for the formal training: A-1 Engine Repair, A-6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, A-8 Engine performance. ASE certifications are highly recommended but not required.

Qualifications:

• Ability to use a wide range of diagnostic and testing equipment, including electrical, electronic, light, and pressure types, to determine cause of mechanical problems such as engine analyzers dynamometers, exhaust analyzers, vacuum and fuel pump testers, injector testers, ignition timers, tachometers, ammeters and ohmmeters.
• Knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is highly recommended.
• Ability to use technical manuals, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repair and modifications to equipment.
• Able to supervise the work operations and/or functional programs and is responsible for employee evaluations and effectively recommending the hiring, promoting and/or disciplining of employees.
• Ability to provide work assignments, advice, and guidance to subordinates, and to observe and evaluate their job performance.
• Ability to disassemble, rebuild, adjust, reassemble, reinstall, and align various automotive components and assemblies.
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and principles.
