Midstate Radiology Associates (MRA) is seeking a Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist to work at Wallingford Imaging and Vein Centers of Connecticut.  

Vein Centers of CT is a highly regarded practice that prides ourselves in providing the highest quality of care in diagnosing and treating varicose veins and spider veins.

Compensation: MRA offers competitive starting compensation based on qualifications and experience. 

Work Locations: Wallingford CT, Meriden, CT, & Bristol CT.

Job Summary:   

Schedules patients and operates equipment to perform diagnostic medical sonograms in accordance with protocols in order to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment.  Follows established policies and procedures set by the department, hospital, state, ACR, JCAHO, and OSHA.

 Key Accountabilities:

  1. Performs ultrasound diagnostic procedures by selecting appropriate transducers and correct scanning sequences to produce an accurate image to assist the radiologist in the diagnosis. 
  2. Evaluate patients for possible treatment. Perform all additional scans indicated by the treatment plan. 
  3. Assist Physician during US Guided procedures and PA/ APRN as needed.
  4. Assesses physician’s order for completeness by reviewing the requisition and patient’s chart to ensure correct examination is performed the first time.
  5. Establishes the testing schedule by prioritizing requests for procedures so that critically ill patients are treated and appropriate physician and staff levels are available.
  6. Performs and documents quarterly quality assurance tests on equipment by following established professional protocols as required by JCAHO and to maintain integrity of the system.
  7. Participates in invasive radiological procedures by assisting the radiologist in             performing the procedure and producing images in order to provide therapeutic and diagnostic services.
  8. Maintains the ultrasound equipment in good operating order.  Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use.  Maintain work area in an orderly manner.  Report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisor.
  9. Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients with regard to the patient’s age, condition or other special requirements.
  10. Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing.  Set up images in PACs system.  Accurately inputs data in the RIS by tracking actual procedure in order to capture all charges and other relevant information for patient billing and to determine department resource allocation, billing and inventory.
  11. Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs in preparation of reports and correspondence.
  12. Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality   service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining and understanding of policies, procedures, and the clinical competency process (in order to evaluate student growth and competence in performing radiographic procedures).

 Qualifications Guidelines:

Education Required:   

  • Current ARDMS and RVT certification (or seeking vascular certification)  with ultrasound experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered or registry eligible with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers(ARDMS)
  • CPR certification may be required.
  • Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by licensure.

Desirable:

  • Graduate AMA approved ultrasound program.
  • At least one year’s experience as an ultrasound technologist
  • Associates or Applied Science Degree in related field.

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge applicable to ultrasound technology with specific references to anatomy, medical and surgical disease, and scientific principles as applied to ultrasound technology.
  • Patient care standards and requirements.
  • Quality assurance principles and practices.
  • Customer service principles and practices.
  • OSHA principles and practices.
  • JCAHO standards of practice.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Operate ultrasound equipment.
  • Schedule, organize and monitor patient flow to meet company productivity, quality, health and safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical staff and co-workers.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient records.
  • Schedule, organize and complete work in accordance with required workloads.
  • Read, interpret and follow internal quality standards and government regulations.
  • Understand and follow specifications and instructions.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Capable of maintaining basic life support (CPR).

Special Conditions:

ARDMS required within 4 months of hire.

RVT required within 12 months of hire. 

Other specialty boards may be required based on operational needs. 

May be required to rotate on night, weekend and/or holiday call schedule.

May be required to cover ancillary offices, as needed.

OSHA Class 1 exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.

May involve physical lifting and/or walking.
