Our office is primarily smart casual/business casual attire with business attire required based on daily duties.

 

Position Summary and Requirements: The Communications Manager works in the Communications Department which on staff includes a Director of Communications, an Associate Director of Sponsorships & Events, a Communications Manager, two Event Managers, one Communications Coordinator and one Events Lead, and on contract includes Public Relations, website management and graphic design. The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications, oversees the Communications Coordinator, and interfaces with external public relations, graphic design and website management consultants. They are tasked with carrying out strategic implementation to ensure effective communication campaigns on behalf of Midtown and the association’s strategic priorities. They will be a hub for content creation including responsibility for copy writing, oversight of graphic and social content creation, and then content distribution via social media, newsletters, website, public relations, graphic design, and will partner with special events on activations as needed. Applicants will be screened for a strong knowledge of digital communications techniques and software proficiency, strong written communication skills, and ability to project manage. Qualified Managers have successful supervisory experience of staff and consultants, are able to act as the staff support to committees of board members and expert community members, have experience with budget development and management, and can plan program performance to generate specific outcomes.

 

Basic Employment Qualifications: All candidates should have no less than three years minimum with six preferred of professional experience and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study. Candidates should have experience with Word Processing, Excel, and Email programs, the ability to speak, read and clearly write in English, and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. All candidates should have proven positive customer service experience and should anticipate pre-employment background checks, driving record checks, and a drug screening.  A valid driver’s license is required.

 

Work Environment: The work environment is located primarily inside and consists of completing tasks involving communications. Conditions can range to include working outside in all types of inclement weather but would be very unlikely unless an event activation was taking place in unexpected inclement weather. Must be able to work around varying degrees of noise and interruptions. Must be self-motivated, flexible, patient, and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision under sometimes stressful conditions.

 

Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position at no less than 40 hours per week. The schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8 am until 5 pm, with at least four days in office and one available to work remotely, however this is an except position which can lend itself to schedule variations based on demand. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under direction from the Communications Director, implement about 30 on going communications campaigns with the intent to increase visitors and investment in Midtown. This including writing project briefs, leading team kick off meetings for campaigns, copy writing, and overseeing implementation. Campaigns range from increasing support of the Midtown Farmers Market to supporting public safety/harm reduction efforts for nighttime visitors. Implementation is as follows.
    • Social media: Ensure the content is inclusive, shares diverse perspectives, encourages users to “Explore Midtown,” and is on-brand for the program represented, all while growing engagement and participation including coordinating influencers or partners to achieve goals.
    • E-Newsletters: Oversee the production of a series of e-newsletters that speak to general Midtown audiences to highlight visitor experiences and to the Midtown business community to highlight the performance of the organization and resources for stakeholders.
    • Public Relations: Interface with external consultant, providing internal traffic control for media opportunities and content for consultant to pitch.
    • Special events: Interface with events team to support attendance goals with communications strategy.
    • Brand standards: Be the keeper of the Explore Midtown and Midtown Love brands, ensuring that all items that are used internally and externally uphold these brand values and standards.
    • Website: Maintain soon to be redesigned website including a robust blog.
    • Graphic Design: Oversee the creation and distribution of annual report, economic development booklet, Midtown Parks prospectus, reports to key funders, and promotional graphics for digital use. Maintain digital files in an organized fashion.
  • Provide daily supervision to oversee Communications Coordinator to produce social media content and images, lay out newsletters, perform some copy writing, and do basic layout of flyers and digital graphics using templates.
  • Interface with other program managers to create content that tells the story of their programs to thread through communication channels.

 

Salary: DOE but applicants can anticipate a starting range of $60-70k per year with additional bonus potential. Midtown Business Association is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
