Kennel Technician

We have opened up our new facility and are looking to add to our crew!

The Kennel Technician provides care and the basic needs of animals that are being groomed, boarded or attending doggie daycare at Midwest Dog Center including cleaning of kennels, daycare areas, training areas, doing laundry, walking dogs as needed, and proper feeding. The Kennel Technician operates under the supervision of the Kennel Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY

· Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.

· Handle animals as required and sometimes restrain animals.

· Provide care for animals being boarded and/or in daycare. Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to manager.

· Apply knowledge of reading instructions of normal food and liquid requirements for dogs. As required, provide special food, liquids or meds.

· Ensure that animals are clean and fresh smelling prior to discharge.

· Ensure that kennels and animals are properly numbered, and that personal property is marked correctly.

· Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, runs and daycare surface as often as is necessary to ensure no kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general cleaning in other areas of the facility to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.

· Launder and dry towels and blankets.

· Patrol MDC grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material. Empty trash.

· Record information such as feeding schedules, appearance, behavior of animals that are boarded, groomed or in daycare.

· Maintain boarding areas thru proper stocking and cleaning.

· Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the goal of MDC.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Ability to handle and restrain dogs using appropriate procedures.

· Ability to walk animals.

· Ability to clean and maintain kennels, runs and daycare areas. Perform general cleaning in boarding, daycare and training areas to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.

· Ability to observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition and obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.

· Regular attendance and cleanliness are an essential function in order to fulfill the requirements of this position.

· Strong communication and customer service skills. Considerable tact and diplomacy is required. Ability to work with customers and dogs in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.

· Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support Midwest Dog Center and all that we practice and stand for.

· Perform general physical activities that require bending, standing, stooping, moving from room to room, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive dogs and hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases.

· Work is performed inside and outside.

· Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays.

· This position will average about 30 hours a week.

· Availability of hours would be 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $12.00 per hour

• 8 hour shift

• Weekends as needed
