Summary – The Mill Manager, under the general direction of the Education Manager, is responsible for the daily management and upkeep of operations for Lanterman’s Mill. It is the responsibility of the Mill Manager to complete all assigned duties, tasks, instructions and/or work orders in a safe, efficient and timely manner. This position is suitable for transitional duty.

- Perform routine inspections of Lanterman’s Mill to ensure proper and safe operation of the facility
- Perform school group and public tours; Provide interpretive tours to visitors
- Promote and participate in Mill special events
- Manage the operation of the gift shop
- Manage the milling process, grinding grain and packaging flour for sale
- Manage administrative tasks including budgeting, purchase orders and phone inquiries
- Manage ordering, scheduling, delivery and storage of supplies, materials, tools and equipment
- Maintain equipment assigned, making recommendations for replacement and/or additions as necessary

- Hires, trains and disciplines employees, ensures that daily actions and attitudes are of a positive and professional manner
- Review, approve and maintain all necessary records including but not limited to timecards, paid time off requests, training mandates and administrative tasks
- Efficiently plans and schedules daily work projects and personnel required

Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills |
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Must be able to maintain a continuous positive attitude and professional appearance
- Knowledge of current industry standard practices, trends, techniques, laws, regulations and best management practices within the fields of milling and facility operations
- Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities including the operation of standard computer equipment, software and smart phone capabilities
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences in both verbal and written form
- Ability to use/operate various types of tools and equipment related to the operation of the mill, as well as vehicles
- Proficient with common office equipment such as computer, cash register, credit card machine, calculator, telephone, answering machine, etc.
- Excellent math skills, including the ability to count money, make change accurately and produce financial report sheets
Education Qualifications |
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must possess and retain a valid Driver’s License
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in supervision of staff
- General mechanical aptitude
- Field experiences in milling operations and interpretive services preferred

- Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position

- Ability to read and interpret plans, details, specifications and operating manuals
- Ability to walk, traverse or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites and all properties under control of Mill Creek MetroParks under all types of conditions
- Must be accessible and available on short notice for emergency call-outs
- Ability to perform physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments in cold and heat
- Ability to work in a dusty environment due to grinding of grain
- Ability to work from different degrees of height by using stairs, ladders, scaffolding, etc.
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds
- Ability to use common cleaning products and disinfectants
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, stoop and walk for lengthy periods of time and walk up/down stairs, ladders, etc.
- Hand dexterity; ability to pull, push, reach and grab freely
Job Requirement |
The Mill Manager is required to be available as the situation warrants. Events may require working evenings, weekends, holidays or other times outside of what is considered a normal schedule.
