Afterschool Counselor
$16.35 - $18 per hour
Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Job Summary:
Mill River Park Collaborative is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Afterschool Counselors for the 2025-2026 school year, with the potential to continue into year-round employment, including summer camp programming. Counselors are responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for school-aged children promoting learning, creativity, and positive social development.
We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable individuals who enjoy working with kids. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player with strong multitasking abilities, and the capacity to work independently when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all program participants through active supervision
- Foster a respectful and inclusive atmosphere that embraces diversity and encourage positive peer interaction
- Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate activities including STEM, arts & crafts, sports, cooking, and social-emotional learning (SEL)
- Assist students with homework and prepare daily snacks for assigned group
- Build strong relationships with parents/guardians through consistent, open communication
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor to students
- Collaborate effectively with other team members and support a cooperative work environment
- Follow all policies and procedures outlined by Mill River Park Collaborative and the Afterschool Program
- Comply with all regulations set forth by the State of Connecticut’s Office of Early Childhood
Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years old (college students preferred)
- High school students, and recent high school graduates are welcome to apply
- Prior experience working with children (babysitting, tutoring, volunteering, etc.) required
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

Pay: $16.35 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
