What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Maker position at MILLAT INDUSTRIES?
The Tool Maker uses blueprints to determine project specifications, plan manufacturing and fabrication methods, set up and operate machine tools, finish and adjust parts, and test tools to ensure quality standards are met. The Tool Maker will also utilize mechanical and mathematical skills while crafting tools and assisting in product design and design for manufacturing.
Essential Functions:
- Use sketches, blueprints, specifications, and models to plan operations for the machining of tools and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency
- Programs, sets up, and operates tool room equipment including mills, lathes, and grinders
- Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers, micrometers, CMMs, Optical Comparators, and other quality gages
- Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and to repair and modify gauges, and jigs
- Design fixtures to be used as work aids for efficient fabrication of products and parts
- Work collaboratively with other departments to assist in both product design and design for manufacturing
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools
- Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns and work with team members to solve problems during the production process
- File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly
- Selects the proper metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications
Job Classification Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of trade school, vocational education, and/or work experience
- Mill, Lathe, and Grinding experience (Prototrak & Hurco experience required)
- Quality oriented
- Has Computer knowledge and has own tools
- Requires independent decision-making skills and able to work in a team
- Reliable with an excellent attendance record
- Must stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor and be able to lift between 10 and 50 pounds frequently
- Consistently adheres to Company safety policies and exhibits characteristics of good role-model
